The First Full Moon on the Solstice Since 1948
On Monday, June 20th, at 8:00 PM EDT | 5:00 PM PDT | 00:00 UTC (International Times), join The Old Farmers Almanac Editor to witness a rare event as the Full Moon rises on the same day as the Summer Solstice, an event which hasnt occurred for nearly 70 years.
This show will be broadcast right to YOUR computer or mobile from our partner Sloohs flagship observatory at the Institute of Astrophysics in the Canary Islands.
During the broadcast, Slooh host, Paul Cox will be joined by Almanac astronomer Bob Berman to discuss this rare astronomical combination, including why its been so long since the last one, when such a combination is mathematically predicted to happen every 15 years.
Having a full moon land smack on the solstice is a truly rare event, says Berman. We probably won't push people off pyramids like the Mayans did, but Slooh will very much celebrate this extraordinary day of light with fascinating factoids and amazing live telescope feeds.

I knew that
(thought of it just as soon as I saw that werewolf pic you'd posted...I think one of the best movie scenes ever is in "American Werewolf in London" with Creedence playing, right before the big "transformation". Him pacing around in the flat before dark, growling at himself in the mirror, checking his teeth...)
Found it:

(135,095 posts)What is the Strawberry Moon?
It is a full moon, which occurs in June, named by early Native American tribes. It is a full moon like any other, but marks the beginning of the strawberry season. The two events coincide once every 70 years.

June solstice full moon in 2016
Celebrate a solstice full moon on June 20, 2016, the first summer solstice full moon in the Northern Hemisphere since 1967's Summer of Love.
What's special about a full moon?
You know it when you see it, but what makes a full moon full?
Things to notice at the June solstice
