Watch the Rare Summer Solstice Full Moon LIVE!

The First Full Moon on the Solstice Since 1948

On Monday, June 20th, at 8:00 PM EDT | 5:00 PM PDT | 00:00 UTC (International Times), join The Old Farmer’s Almanac Editor to witness a rare event as the Full Moon rises on the same day as the Summer Solstice, an event which hasn’t occurred for nearly 70 years.

This show will be broadcast right to YOUR computer or mobile from our partner Slooh’s flagship observatory at the Institute of Astrophysics in the Canary Islands.

During the broadcast, Slooh host, Paul Cox will be joined by Almanac astronomer Bob Berman to discuss this rare astronomical combination, including why it’s been so long since the last one, when such a combination is mathematically predicted to happen every 15 years.

“Having a full moon land smack on the solstice is a truly rare event,” says Berman. “We probably won't push people off pyramids like the Mayans did, but Slooh will very much celebrate this extraordinary day of light with fascinating factoids and amazing live telescope feeds.”

I'm a big fan of Fogerty, seen him perform many times.

Always remember, There's a barhroom on the right.

I knew that

(thought of it just as soon as I saw that werewolf pic you'd posted...I think one of the best movie scenes ever is in "American Werewolf in London" with Creedence playing, right before the big "transformation". Him pacing around in the flat before dark, growling at himself in the mirror, checking his teeth...)

Found it:

15. I knew what pinboy meant but sat here & actually pronounced it aloud...

singing it to myself, thinking maybe there was some other misheard lyric that I wasn't aware of.

Baaarhroom

(I knew several people who really did think he was singing "bathroom on the right", mostly young 'uns and my grandma, too.)

17. Yes, that's it's name,

What is the Strawberry Moon?

It is a full moon, which occurs in June, named by early Native American tribes. It is a full moon like any other, but marks the beginning of the strawberry season. The two events coincide once every 70 years.

Fishing should be hot too! Might try for some tarpon or cobia.

11. Lol, 10% is 'no chance of rain'

And likely clear skies this time of year. Should be perfect even from the backyard

And only coming about half way.

June solstice full moon in 2016

Celebrate a solstice full moon on June 20, 2016, the first summer solstice full moon in the Northern Hemisphere since 1967's Summer of Love.

What's special about a full moon?

You know it when you see it, but what makes a full moon full?

Things to notice at the June solstice
