Marta contacted the Omaha World Herald. They did some detective work and got the Wall Cemetery mowed!

Marta's Graveyards of Omaha site: http://www.graveyardsofomaha.com/

Marta's Wall Cemetery pages includes how Vernon was killed by friendly fire in 1944: http://www.graveyardsofomaha.com/submarine/submarinel_main.html

This is how the cemetery looked several years ago.

Today's pix below.

These are how the cemetery lookd on Memorial Day

Today. The flag still looks like it went through a battle. We will take care of that soon!

For 16 years, my husband and I buy 2 American flags a year, one for our community center and one for the gazebo in our little park. We have made a comminent to keep the American flag fresh and new looking as long as we live here. Wish we could do more for our veterans, money wise.

They might even supply one for free because of the location, but even if not they can get one that has flown over the US Capitol: http://www.aoc.gov/flags

You can request that the flag be flown over the capitol on a specific date - since Wall's birth date is Sept. 11, that could be difficult, so maybe request the date he is believed to have died.
