5. Federal judges aren't easily swayed

Maybe this sort of public grandstanding works with lowly state court judges, but federal judges are a different breed. If Trump ever makes the mistake of appearing in court for a hearing or some other non-trial proceeding, I suspect the judge might just demonstrate that for him.

6. I think he wants to change judges and/or delay the case.

Calling the judge a Mexican is not an accident. He is hoping that the judge will respond in such a way as to make it appear that the judge can no longer be fair to Trump. Judges are smart. I suspect that the judge will not respond to the insults. Trump will get justice and he isn't going to like it. Trump sees it coming. He's going to have to account for defrauding all those students.

If he has to pay fines and restitution, that will probably include some deep digging into his actual financial state, something he seems desperate to keep under wraps.

9. It's the Trump brand that he worries about.

If he gets hit with a finding of fraud in a major case, it will make it much harder for him or his family to defraud others in the future. He has worked for years trying to associate his name with quality, but he's always been willing to cheat and steal so long as there is lots of glitter. The judge could hit him for a billion dollars in this case, but it will not be as big a loss as the damage that his "brand" will suffer.
