TX Runoff Election: 3060 ballots issued, 10 people bothered to vote

I am a Precinct Chair and Election Judge in Tarrant County.

Two of those votes were my hubby and myself. So, only 8 people showed up to vote. I was in charge of officiating 17 precincts.

This is a huge problem with Democrats in Texas. They do not get out to vote. Why? I have no idea. I have been a precinct chair since '08 and this is what I am up against. People not doing their civic duty and voting.

I am hoping to get email addresses so I can do email campaigns to GOTV. The Tarrant County Democratic Party is working on turning our county blue. They have several programs devoted to helping the precinct chairs to get voters to the polls. However, the voters have to vote to make a difference. When our voters refuse to vote then the other side always win. It is that simple, yet, it is a difficult task to undertake. But I am so frustrated by the lack of voter turnout that I am compelled to work harder at getting my precinct out to vote.

1. Most primary and runoff elections

in TX are rethug heavy, in my precinct, only 1 Democratic runoff was there, on the rethug side, there were many many more

4. I'm in a typical blue collar neighborhood and they vote heavily for repubs

I don't understand how that is exactly. But it is what it is.

Listening the the repub voters all day is truly an eyeopener.

2. Do they have candidates to vote FOR?

GOTV is made much more difficult when the message voters hear is "our candidates suck, but not quite as bad as Republicans".

5. Yes, we do have candidates to vote for

And we NEVER refer to them as "our candidates suck, but not quite as bad as Republicans".

That's not a very effective way to encourage voters to feel compelled to vote. Not my style or our party's either.

6. That's good.

In my state, Democrats outnumber Republicans by 700,000 or so, but don't turn out to vote because the Democratic candidates forced on us are awful...oftentimes ex-republicans.

7. That can be a problem

I used to welcome ex-repubs into our party. However, not anymore because they bring the R-wing policies with them and encourage us to vote against everything our party has stood for.

I have another thread currently in GD, one of our US Congressman Marc Veasey is working on overturning the voter id laws currently in place across our country. Check it out! http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027858247
