to give a perspective on what is happening!

Here's another look at the Fort McMurray wildfire situation: http://wildfire.alberta.ca/wildfire-status/wildfire-status-map.aspx

A fire ban is in effect for the entire province of Alberta: http://www.emergencyalert.alberta.ca/

The Fort McMurray wildfire is not the only one burning there, but it is certainly the worst.

A good report from Wired: http://www.wired.com/2016/05/insane-challenges-fighting-albertas-inferno/

Fighting this fire is especially complicated, because it’s not confined to just a city or wilderness. Fort McMurray is in what firefighters call a Wildland Urban Interface. Forest surrounds and laces through the city. Some of its neighborhoods are built on slopes, hilltops, and other topographic features that channel fire. The city is isolated, with a single freeway connecting it to the outside world. Oh, and it’s in the middle of the Alberta Tar Sands.

Warmer than Miami despite being 650 mi north of Helena Montana.

Climate change is affecting the North more and faster than the rest of the world.

Nice future they are leaving to their children and grandchildren, the selfish deniers.

The first one, raining fire, brings home the terror they are facing trying to evacuate. I had family in Durango, CO, and Los Alamos, NM when they had destructive and dangerous fires, and I watched the news coverage intently. I didn't see anything that conveyed the horrific conditions as starkly as this.

My heart goes out to them as they try to get out of harm's way.
