London mayor branded 'racist' after his attack on the 'part Kenyan' Barack Obama

* Mayor of London mentioned Obama's African ancestry as he criticised the decision to remove Winston Churchill bust from the Oval Office

* Johnson suggested Obama got rid of the statue because of his 'ancestral dislike of the British empire'

* But former Lib Dem leader Lord Campbell dismissed 'unacceptable smear'

* Labour frontbencher Diane Abbott hits out at 'offensive' comments that echoed the Tea Party in the US

Boris Johnson was accused of 'dog whistle racism' and likened to right-wing 'Tea Party' politicians in the US this morning after his attack on the 'part-Kenyan' Barack Obama.

The Mayor of London spoke out against the US President, after he urged British voters to stay in the EU, and mentioned his African ancestry as he criticised the decision to remove a bust of Sir Winston Churchill from the Oval Office shortly after Mr Obama entered the White House.

Mr Johnson - who is favourite to succeed David Cameron as Prime Minister - suggested the President got rid of the statue as a 'snub' to Britain's wartime prime minister and a 'symbol of the part-Kenyan President's ancestral dislike of the British empire'.

But Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell hit out at Mr Johnson and demanded he withdraw the controversial remarks.

As I noted in another post, I have long suspected that Boris Johnson and Donald Trump were separated at birth.

Be afraid. Be very afraid
Unbelievable as it may seem, Boris Johnson has a real chance of being elected London mayor today. Zoe Williams and other Londoners imagine what it would be like if this bigoted, lying, Old Etonian buffoon got his hands on our diverse and liberal capital

So part of his comment read to me as an out of touche jab at Kenya having beyond 100% legitimate anger to the crown for their atrocities...and trying to play off of British nationalism with the statue...but nope got to the line on watermelon smiles... you are a f@cking piece of scum Boris. Can't wait for Oliver to cover this.

the integral participation of the UK for the last 40 years.

Their leaving would deal a major blow to the long-term viability of the whole European Union.

Not a positive prospect.

France has historically labelled Britain "Perfidious Albion" (due to the white cliffs).

Sadly, they have lived up to that derogatory tag many times, and this is one of them.

We have almost three-quarters of the population within NAFTA and likely a larger percentage of the GDP.

The EU, meanwhile, would still have Germany, France and a few other heavyweights.
