Ex-pats!!! How can I move out of this country without being wealthy?

I'll happily work a job outside my chosen field if I could just move out of here.

I live in the South. If Wisconsin went this way, then woe is far on me.

Can I only move to a real country if I have a job? Is there any way to claim asylum? I'm actually serious about that.

I'm only 42, which is apparently "old" now.

a place with single payer, public education, and a useable mass transit system.

Sign me up. I bet in other countries they rebuild their cities that have been wiped out by floods. Not here.

Don't ever surrender to despair and apathy no matter how bad things look you fight to the very goddamn end.

And don't insult the less developed world by saying "How do I move to a REAL country".

Places tend to look better looking in than they are once you actually live there.

Especially for the types of people who focus on the negative to the point where they feel to need to abandon things.

And, I want to abandon something that isn't working.

If my marriage was like the United States, currently, with a shitload of stupidity, lying, cheating and blaming, I would abandon that.

The only people I would not abandon are my kids, but I put them here, so that's entirely my responsibility. I didn't, personally, build this country. I certainly didn't funny money up to the rich.

I'm only abandoning a place - that I don't like and that, apparently, doesn't like me. I don't think this country gives a flying flip if I leave it... if only I could.

And I make no claim to truly know them, you don't really know a place till you've lived there for a significant amount of time.

The second easiest way is to study in another country and establish prospects with local employers during your study period (although that might require a bit of money if you don't have a grant or scholarship).

My husband was born in South Africa, but renounced that citizenship at 18.

I'm distantly Irish.

Hell, my direct family settled this damn country (John Browning in Jamestown, VA) and I want to go back "home." Ugh.

This experiment has now failed.

only to see if folks have some ideas. I'm about ready to toss in the towel, too. I can't believe I am surrounded by that much ignorance (that ignorance makes me want to get out. I am not sure we can 'cure' that.)

We came into Europe to rid the world of fascism. Who's going to come to rescue us? Particularly since we've long since blown that goodwill.

It's certainly not on the verge of collapse with an economic situation even worse than others outside of less income inequality, nope nope nope!

I mean my god if your going to move to move because of all of Americas problems at least move to Canada or Australia or some place that doesn't have just as many problems with no solution in sight.

My first preference would be Ireland; however, I'm not so stupid to jump from near austerity to real austerity.

Plus... I don't eat pork.
