Watch: 4 Cops Forcefully Arrest NYC Mail Carrier After They Almost Hit Him With Unmarked Car

March 17 was a regular workday for Brooklyn, N.Y., mail carrier Glenn Grays, 27, until he was almost hit by an unmarked police car carrying plainclothes police officers, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said in a Tuesday press conference, according to Bed-Stuy Patch. Grays apparently didn't realize that the men were cops and allegedly mouthed off at them—"as any New Yorker would do," Adams said.

After the cops jumped out of their vehicle, they demanded Grays' identification, which he told them was in the U.S. Postal Service truck.

A passerby quickly pulled out a cellphone to record the incident. It is then that you can see, in the video, the officers manhandling Grays and saying that he was resisting arrest.

People in the background can be heard saying, "Lawsuit, lawsuit, man."

Grays told the officer that he wasn't resisting, but the officer insisted that he was.

Adams said that the incident "could have been another Eric Garner situation" during the press conference, where Grays and his mother also appeared. At one point, Grays wiped away tears, according to Bed-Stuy Patch. Although Grays was arrested, he was not charged with a crime, but Adams says that he was still issued a court summons.

Report those cops to the United States Postal Inspection Service

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service is to support and protect the U.S. Postal Service and its employees, infrastructure, and customers; enforce the laws that defend the nation’s mail system from illegal or dangerous use; and ensure public trust in the mail.
https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/aboutus/mission.aspx

Assaults (18 USC 111 & 1114)
The protection of Postal Service employees is one of our most important responsibilities. Inspectors promptly investigate assaults and threats that occur while postal employees are performing official duties or as a result of their employment.

Destruction, Obstruction and Delay of Mail (18 USC 1700, 1701, 1702 & 1703)
The Postal Inspection Service upholds federal statutes aimed at securing customers' mail, including those related to the desertion, obstruction, delay or destruction of mail. Postal Inspectors demonstrate their resolve by implementing mail security processes to ensure that customers receive their mail intact and free from outside interference.

Theft of Mail (18 USC 1708 & 1709)
Postal Inspectors invest significant resources into the investigation of mail theft by criminals.

The carrier was attempting to deliver a package to that address where the cops grabbed him. The cops made him drop the package, it was kicked around during their manhandling of the carrier, then they picked the package up and carried it off. In addition, it does not look as if they secured the mail truck - how many other pieces of mail could be stolen from it?

anyone think this poor mailman would have been treated this way if he were white?

Back in the 80's I was a city mail carrier just like this guy. If the cops had treated me like this, the USPS and my union rep and my boss would have had my back instantly. I hope this fellow's supervisors will do the same.

years. I was a mailman in the 80's and the federal nature of the USPS was taken very seriously. Several of us walked in pretty bad neighborhoods and were never bothered because a hard rain was gonna fall on anyone who interfered with a mail carrier (IIRC, $25,000 fine and 10 yrs in jail).

What has obviously changed is that the USPS, back then, had informal reciprocal practices with the local cops -- we could speed in our mail trucks and not get a ticket, for example. We were respected as fellow feds, no matter what our color or gender. I see that has gone out the window, apparently. When we old folks tell you that things are going to shit, this is what we mean.

Are there no pre-hire tests for this kind of stupid mob behavior by police? I guess driving on to whatever they were doing was more important OR rolling down the windows and saying at least a sorry?
