Centrist: no. Except in the Old Confederacy. Wallace was a "centrist" there, I guess.

DEM Socialist: He had no coherent economic critique, that i can remember, anyway.

Campaign of intolerance? Yeah. I guess. He railed against anti-war protestors and said he was going to "put in jaii anyone calling fo a communist victory in Viet Nam".

Racial intolerance wasn't an OVERT issue. He was all abut "states' rights". But he and his core constituency in the south were pissed over DC-imposed de-segregation.

5. I lived through that

in Alabama. I was in high school then (and the schools were still segregated) and have horrible memories of that time. Wallace bought out the absolute worst in his constituents. He openly threatened anyone who had the guts to protest him while onstage and there are probably some old videos of it out there. I'll look around.
