if the evil gubberment listens to all calls & emails, why can't they unlock that Iphone?

Seems to directly contradict all the paranoid conspiracy theories. Why don't the fed already have all this info? I thought that they were listening to everything in real time, or had access to recordings of the same. WTH? Can't I get a functioning conspiracy theory when I need one?

they can unlock it.

The problem is if they don't get it right after 10 try's, any data will be erased.

5. Because there's a big difference in listening to electronic communications and hacking a phone.

They already have the tech to do the former but lack the know-how to do the latter. I stand with Apple when I say screw the Feds.

9. Once again, there's a difference in what Apple did and what they're now being asked to do.

Apple, though, says the case could set a precedent for forcing company engineers to write code to help the government break any iPhone. “The U.S. government has asked us for something we simply do not have, and something we consider too dangerous to create,” Mr. Cook said in his letter.

The Feds aren't asking Apple to use existing tech to solve the problem. They're asking Apple to write new code which is another step in the direction of allowing unfettered spying. Or another tool that can be used against citizens. No thanks.

You mean that evil government? Of course it doesn't make sense.

who says they haven't already cracked it, and this is all a show to grab more authority over people's data so they can do whatever that want openly?

At the very least, this has nothing to do with this particular phone, and everything to do with the feds being mad that apple makes shit like prosecuting the drug war against small time drug users slightly more difficult.

it's exactly the kind of babble I hear from CTers. Something like "this is all a show in order to distract us from the fact of [insert crazy-ass fantasy here, like "they never made it to the moon" or "they have secret military bases on the moon" or "they are lizard-people disguised as humans"...]

10. For one, they probaly can. At the very least i doubt they care what is actually on it.

But going full NSA on the encryption is far more expensive than just making apple come to heel.

This is more about the precedent, which is why apple is already being sent lists of iphones of 'dangerous criminals'-- like pot smokers--- from DAs that they also "need" cracked open.
