(7,290 posts)It simply amazes me that so many people have no idea that the Senate can't stop the President from nominating someone, and the President can't force the Senate to hold hearings or vote on the nominee.

(1,421 posts)I am saying, based on previous nominations that I wasn't thrilled with, they should hold the fucking hearing and publically disagree with the candidate, and we are all entitled, as citizens to hear what they have to say. This is not speaking to whether they can be forced by the President.

(1,421 posts)[The President] shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two-thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the Supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.
