It would be real easy to insult this little turd about his looks but I won't go there.

In a broadcast on Wednesday, Figueroa said, "Michelle Obama looks like she's part of the cast of 'Planet of the Apes.'" Figueroa made the comments as a photo of the first lady was shown on screen.
But in his statement today, Figueroa said that his comments were intended as a criticism of an unflattering job done by Obama's makeup artist.
"The full video clip in context shows that," he said.
Figueroa referred to his own background in asserting that he's "no racist."

(6,409 posts)Not that there is a probability one way or the other. I just mean to say it to could occur to the guy that she reminded him of one of the ape characters from the movie because they were all so heavily covered in makeup. I mean, people compared George Dubya Bush to a chimpanzee, and he's about as white as they get.

(32,342 posts)There is a long racist past that comes with comparing Black people with apes, that has nothing to do with GWB. At all.

(6,409 posts)It does sound racist, but not everything is the way it appears.

(11,138 posts)Not sure what you are trying to prove here, but you really need to let it go. Comparing Michelle Obama to a character from Planet of the Apes is being a racist shithead, no matter what this idiot says by way of "explanation".

(9,951 posts)It's inappropriate on both sides of the aisle.
There is this thing called free speech, I don't like it, Michelle is a classy lady, but it is his right to say it, and he paid the price for it.
Just like going after the children of politicians if they're not in politics.

(102,105 posts)But I have yet to EVER see anyone on DU (since I registered in 2001) say anything even remotely on this scale of inappropriateness towards Laura or Barbara Bush. Making fun of their clothing or general demeanor, however unseemly and unjustified even towards Republicans, is not even in the same ballpark as comparing our current first lady to an ape.
How you could compare the two makes me wonder...

(9,951 posts)I agree, I've never seen any DU'er say anything like that towards Barbara or Laura, or even Nancy Reagan for that matter.

(15,023 posts)Still unemployed, though he seems to be making a go of it with a fashion webcast. He apologized but qualified it so much it was almost meaningless. His explanation for the comment's genesis seems plausible though unbelievably tone deaf. Nothing reported since on how Mrs Obama reacted. Three hours ago he tweeted he's having a wonderful time in St. Barth.
A somewhat perplexing tale of a very vexatious flaw in our humanity.
Perhaps, one day, we'll come home from all the wars.
