another question the media won't ask

this time Trump and eminent domain

Trump has repeatedly hidden behind the concept of eminent domain pointing out it is used to build roads schools and hospitals.

However it is not about eminent domain, it is about ABUSE of eminent domain, forcing people to sell off their homes or businesses so that Trump can build a casino, which is NOT the intent of eminent domain.

Is it really that hard to ask the question?

in the Kelo v. New London case:

"Any property may now be taken for the benefit of another private party, but the fallout from this decision will not be random. The beneficiaries are likely to be those citizens with disproportionate influence and power in the political process, including large corporations and development firms."

The city of New London had the nerve to charge the displaced homeowners 5 years rent, claiming that they had been living on city land during the time the case was in litigation. The city lost and had to pay the homeowners additional compensation.

BTW: The developer failed to secure financing and the site remains a vacant lot.

What you say here:

However it is not about eminent domain, it is about ABUSE of eminent domain, forcing people to sell off their homes or businesses so that Trump can build a casino, which is NOT the intent of eminent domain.

is the piece that I think gets lost.

The problem is some wingers are against eminent domain, period. That is rightly seen as a wingnutty and dangerous proposition. But there is a big difference between eminent domain used by an accountable democratic government on behalf of the governed, vs. "eminent domain" used to benefit a private entity.

Jeb Bush slams Donald Trump for trying to "take property from an elderly woman"
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/jeb-bush-slams-donald-trump-for-trying-to-take-property-from-an-elderly-woman/
Republican front runner Donald Trump on Saturday night once again found himself defending his position on eminent domain, when in the GOP debate Jeb Bush slammed him for trying to "take property from an elderly woman."

Bush leveled the charge after Trump said that eminent domain is "absolutely necessary for a country" because it enables the construction of major public infrastructure, such as roads and hospitals.

"That's for public purpose," Bush countered in the ABC debate in Manchester, New Hampshire. Trump, he said, once tried to use eminent domain to turn an elderly woman's property "into a limousine parking lot for his casinos."

The trumpeter even got booed for pulling an Archie Bunker on Jeb when he told bush to be "quiet." Archie would say, "Edith, stifle yourself."
