1. As a former NYer, I do not trust the NYPD to do the right thing.
I know a former NYPD officer. In his retirement years, he is attempting to publicize the sheer corruption of that organization. In particular, the grotesque salaries that "the white shirts" make.

5. Damn! I just checked it out on Wikipedia.
> Schoolcraft to receive $600,000 in compensation
Too bad he settled, and seemingly for so little. This needed more publicity. Thanks, X-man |

Police or corporations spying on people.

6. We know from Occupy NY that the NYPD will spy for and protect Wall Street firms and banks.
The mayor, whether it was Bloomberg or DeBlasio, does not seem to have them in hand.

8. You could have included a snippet.
..have been used by the New York Police Department on at least 1,000 occasions since 2008 in the course of investigating rapes, murders and other crimes, as well as in searches for missing people,... IOW, it's likely used due to warrants for specific searches, an aspect the NYT didn't even bother addressing. 11. Which is why we have this huge bureaucracy and multiple layers of accountability.
It's why we have judges who rule on the admissibility of things like this. All of it is designed to make the likelihood of dishonest people getting away with something less likely to occur. It isn't foolproof but then nothing is.

12. I like your Leonard Cohen quote.
Cohen fan here.
I'm old, tired, cranky and have lost faith in the bureaucracy. I don't see justice for the poor. |
