How long do you think that Jeb! hangs on?

Why suffer another embarrassment if his poll numbers are still less than 5 %.

6. He might

if he can launder enough of that Super PAC money to make it worth his while. Even if he drops out, he can still benefit if there is a brokered convention. The question is whether even Republicans want Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz and the rest of that cast of characters back for high oil prices and endless war.

4. If Jeb! wins, I'll petition for Westward Ho! to officially lose its !.

Westward Ho! - a Cornish seaside village and the only one in the UK to have a ! as part of its official postal name. Should be twinned with Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha!, Quebec IMO. Then.... Nelson from The Simpsons will have the perfect phrase for when he suspends his campaign...

I don't know if they still officially have the exclamation point, but people mocked them mercilessly after they first added it.

5. Stepping back is good. This primary is like a FISH-EYE lens in a milling group.

As each person centers big in the lens their flaws become clear and the public moves on to someone else.

The best thing is to be the last one big in the lens when public is too tired to care about the flaws.

What else does he have to do? Wait it out. See if you get lucky.

He is hoping for backlash against the hyper crazy candidates to the moderately crazy candidate.

33. He should know we're way past that

A year ago, this race was cast as Jeb! vs. Rand with Cruz, Christie, and Rubio as also-rans. No one figured it was going to be Cruz and Trump. The "sanity" wing of the GOP is now scrambling to support Rubio as their best hope.

The best case scenario now for Jeb is veep. I don't even think that is going to happen.

If they go with Trump, I think his Veep is Susanna Martinez

If they go with Cruz, it's anyone's guess -- maybe Jeb! to try to solidify Florida, but I think not. Maybe Joni Ernst. Maybe Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts to try to lure more PAC money his way. Maybe Scott Walker or John Kasich to pick off a swing state.

If they go with Rubio, Jeb! would be a good fit for Veep because they'll need someone with Gravitas. But my understanding is they dislike one another. If she'd do it, Condi Rice would probably be the way for him to go.

If anything, he will spend all his remaining campaign funds on attack ads on Rubio, then drop out.

12. That's certainly what "Right to Rise" was doing in Iowa

Rubio portrayed as a twisting weather vane. Bush portrayed as a rolling train. It was odd, really.

The punditry acts like Rubio's finish was some kind of mystery. It's easy - he dropped a lot of TV money in the last 3 weeks (so did Carson, Cruz, & Trump -- in about that order) (Oh -- and so did Sanders. I could go a lifetime before I'll want to hear "I've Come to Look for America" again). (Did I mention how happy I am that Iowa is done? Television is much more watchable.)

16. his slogan "right to rise" just mystifies me. do you know what the hell it means?

sometimes I think it is faintly sexual. what rises? what right? where do we rise to?

I think it means we have a right to rise from lower to middle class and further up the ladder. Is that it?

25. Nothing about Jeb's campaign makes sense.

It's like they dusted off a bunch of crap from a Florida gubernatorial run, and said to themselves "this oughtta work!" His whole strategy has been poorly thought through.

Here is a link to the ad I was talking about:

Yes -- the "right to rise" theme is supposed to mean we're being held back by current policies. In reality it means more of the same -- lower taxes on the wealthy and deregulate businesses.

14. I remember way back before the primary that put GWB in.

When he was asked if he was going to run for president, he would consistently and adamantly insist that he had no desire to run. (Texas primarily run by legislature, so being Governor was like a part-time job.) Then...wham bam...one day he announces he's running. There is an evil machine in the republican party that wants a candidate they can manipulate. Now they are pushing for Jeb when it's very clear, he does not want the job .

The evil machine lead by Cheney.

15. When GWB became Governor, I figured he'd be the next President

Remember, he ran as a moderate and aisle-crosser. Many voters figured he'd be his dad with a Texas accent.

To your point: that's why the powers hat be over there want Rubio. Cruz is a jerk (ask any Senator of either party)and Trump is a loose cannon. Rubio will play ball.

17. Bush will win the nomination because the rest are too crazy and unelectable.

The problem is the Republican voters have been sooo deluded, they will pick a moronic Canadian fundamentalist demagogue over a narcissistic American egomaniac because religion or something. Political decisions are being de-rationalized, reduced to one or two emotions, fear and hate. But, when the real primaries roll around, where will the supporters of those dropping out land? If they wanted Trump or Cruz, they'd already be in those camps. They will become Bush supporters because no Mitt. Watch the mainstream Republicans coalesce and watch the under-expectation game George played play out all over again.

But hey, what do I know? Certainly not the future!
