(46,301 posts)The right *AND* the left have a visceral hatred and unwillingness to understand real science.
The right has a hatred of evolution and climate science.
But Robert F Kennedy Jr is in frothing hysterics over vaccines.
Mention "GMO" and the hysterics come flying out of the woodwork, led by the writings of the Maharishi Yogi "college" graduate Jeff Smith.
At times I'd swear it's as bad as Alex Jones' radio show here.
And the "Bernie vs Hillary" death match is just getting revved up, it'll get as bad or even worse than 2008, when the "Barack vs Hillary" death match got going.

...that's an excellent point in regards to extreme fringes of both ideologies rejecting consensus science. However, the level of ignorance on the Right is inflamed by the candidates they have been putting forth in the current election - they're a reflection of the growing idiocy. At least the Democratic candidates acknowledge the reality of climate change and refuse to accept unsubstantiated claims concerning vaccines being the cause of mental disorders and death.

(5,764 posts)and they generally support progressive principles. I've never known a right-winger that did not express racist and violent attitudes, sooner or later. Embracing pseudoscience is a minor 'flaw' that is easily overlooked, as far as I'm concerned.
I think you're promoting a false equivalence between leftists and right-wingers.

(46,301 posts)If Robert F. Kennedy Jr was ever elected to any office, do you think he wouldn't try to put his anti-vaccine zealotry into law?
It depends on how fervently the person advocates for a particular pseudoscience.
Tom Harkin, the Senator, had an "alternative medicine" government program put in place, millions of dollars went down a complete rat hole.

That lack of critical thinking adopted and perpetuated by the Reaganites has culminated in the birth of the radical and mentally deficient Tea Party.

(38,303 posts)The grifter Nixon Republicans, especially starting with the Reagan Administration, played them for the ignorant fools they are, laughing all the way to the bank.

(33,688 posts)Those two go together like shit and stink, though the sweep of history shows that nothing makes people dumber than religion, particularly of the fundy sort. It shuts off questions, and that spills over into everything. Mindless nationalism/patriotism is also very near the top of the list.
