Harney county sheriff reports increased harassment...

Copy of his statement at link

BURNS — Residents of Harney County are reporting an increase in intimidating interactions with self-identified militia members and other nonresidents, Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward said in a statement released Monday night.

Ward said his department is receiving “continual reports” of law enforcement officers and community members being followed home; of people sitting in cars outside their homes, observing their and their family members’ movements; and of people following them and their families as they move around the community.

“While not direct physical threats, these activities are clearly designed to try to intimidate,” Ward said in his statement.

Ward said he’s been told by officials at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that their employees have encountered similar incidents. The department manages the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, where an armed militia has occupied buildings since Jan. 2.

In addition, self-identified militia members “have attempted to engage (Fish and Wildlife) employees and their family members in debates about their status as federal employees,” Ward said in his statement. “Many of these confrontations are taking place as their employees are grocery shopping, running errands with their families and trying to lead their day-to-day lives.”

...and fuck with the people fucking with the sheriff's family and other locals. It's a bad idea that could end in blood (so I'm not going to do it, obviously)...but this shit is unacceptable and infuriating. These out-of-state assclowns need to get the fuck out of Oregon.

I'm really feeling for the locals. I only encounter them a few times a year (I do get out to that part of Oregon fairly frequently), and they tend to be much more conservative than I am...but they're good folks, the ones I've spoken to, and they sure didn't ask for this crap.

I've been urging continued patience with this, and still do (for anyone to die over this, even the militants, would just be so tragic and stupid), but if some of those new arrivals are harrassing locals and the Bundy Bunch are staring to destroy things at the refuge, I'm ready for Gov. Brown to mobilize some NG forces and let them know it's time for this to end. Or else.

There's no doubt in my mind that all the big talk about being "ready to die" would go silent real quick in the face of a few Abrams tanks and/or a helicopter gunship hovering a couple clicks away. I'd hate to see those weapons used (it really is a lovely old facility, and it's needed for refuge operations), but none of that will matter if one of these idiots or their unwelcome out-of-state supporters actually harms one of the locals.

so many advancements in non-lethal chem/bio/waveguide anti-personnel (can't even say most are) weapons that have come about throughout the decades that any one or combination of any of a few would make miserable holy-hell out of their camp-out. I can't figure why an opportunity to field test some of them has not been in play here.

Give a 12 armed-to-the-teeth bullies an inch, they'll take over a Nat'l Forest, a Federal Bldg and a town called Burns, OR.

Where the fuck are the city officials? .. The law-enforcement so-called? cowering under their beds?

This has gone WAY beyond "far enough"..

They need to arrest these guys and either arrest their cohorts from out of state or run them out of town.

Occupying federal property, and going through department computers and gathering information. Why would anyone have a problem with that? They're good, responsible, law-abiding (sort of) fellows.

It was discussed at the town meeting so I wouldn't think of this as necessarily happening over the last couple of days unless clearly stated.

and their buddies have been harassing the townfolk for about a month, at least and now that the champeen brainchild with the livestream - who got hisself kicked out of the town meetin tonight) thinks he figgered out that the Sheriff was a BLM employee who testified against the Hammonds years ago (saw somewhere that there are two guys with that name in the area and the other works for BLM) he's being followed and harassed even more.

Glad I'm way over here.
