Charles Koch is disappointed with the line-up of Republican candidates in the 2016 cycle, and is surprised by the lack of influence he and his brother have wielded so far.
In an interview with the Financial Times, the billionaire businessman and philanthropist, said hell eventually support a candidate who he agrees with on some things with, but that its hard to get excited. He said a list presented to all the candidates about the Kochs' political arm's priorities doesnt seem to faze them much. Youd think we could have more influence.
It is hard for me to get a high level of enthusiasm because the things Im passionate about and I think this country urgently needs arent being addressed, he said.
Koch also bashed the candidates currently leading the Republican field Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and businessman Donald Trump. Koch said that if Trump was successful with his proposal to require all Muslims entering the U.S. to register with the government, then well, then you destroy our free society.
Who is it that said, If you want to defend your liberty, the first thing youve got to do is defend the liberty of people you like the least? he continued.
Koch then went on to attack Cruzs proposal to carpet-bomb ISIL. Ive studied revolutionaries a lot, he said. Mao said that the people are the sea in which the revolutionary swims. Not that we dont need to defend ourselves and have better intelligence and all that, but how do we create an unfriendly sea for the terrorists in the Muslim communities? We havent done a good job of that.

(13,616 posts)It means times are very very bad. We all know Koch would get rid of every regulatroy agency and social program there is. Take what has happened in Flint or three mile island or love canal and make it the new normal, without medicare or social security. And yet...he is actually more sane than Cruz and Trump. Now this is the part where I look at the libertarians and say "well, you kissed the devil, now you marry him." We know the Koches and Bushes think they they can simply use these firebrands for cover, then move in; sorry, it looks like the dimwit brownshirts outsmarted the slick SS this time around.

Note to the Kochs: You ordered it, you eat it.

Charles Koch is "disappointed" with the current GOP primary field. What if his solution is an entirely different political party, of Koch-design? Why else make statements denigrating the GOP candidates?
