Female voices in the media infographic. (Wow)

About this data
The 4th Estate collects data from a sampling of news stories from US national print outlets, TV broadcast and radio transcripts covering the 2012 election. These stories are contextually analyzed and broken down by topic, sentiment and newsmaker. The data for this graphic includes quotes and statements from newsmakers who provide subjective insight. Statements from candidates are not counted. The 4th Estate's sister company, Global News Intelligence, provides similar proprietary services for government and Fortune 500 companies.

4. a thought...

although I agree women's voice are underrepresented in most areas of our society, 2012 election coverage is going to have skewed numbers towards men because there are two men running for president. And most elected representatives are men. And most church leaders are men. Not sure if they accounted for this, but when your voices are mostly men in general, your voices about women's issues are going to also be from mostly men.
Not that they should have much to say...

6. Well the website did say "Statements from candidates are not counted."

So I think they accounted for it already. Other than that I guess we don't know how solid the study is really.

20. When men tell me about the atrocities afflicted on MiddleEastern women,

I always wonder how they feel about women's reproductive rights here in the US.

22. Yes, we should shut up about inequalities here, because they are so much worse elsewhere.

That's basically what men are telling us when they say that.

21. I'm glad to see women's issues finally getting more of a voice here...

As a lurker in 2008, I was appalled at how so many were willing to marginalize them for political gain. Hopefully the Republicans went too far this year and this will create a whole new Democratic Underground.

I wonder how much worse it is for other topics such as the military, the economy, climate change, international diplomacy, education, election reform, the judiciary, and on and on...

but I really feel this country is really going down the drain when it comes to gender equality.
