Wisconsin: Republican lawmaker intent on making State "more backward than Mississippi"

http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/lawmaker-proposes-personhood-amendment-to-change-wisconsins-constitution-s63gc32-136241093.html

..snip..

A freshman lawmaker is proposing to change Wisconsin's Constitution to grant equal rights to the unborn as part of a national push to reframe the abortion debate, a strategy that has failed in at least two states and has divided abortion opponents in Wisconsin and elsewhere.

State Rep. Andre Jacque (R-Bellevue) introduced the so-called personhood amendment in November. He says it's needed to protect the state's decades-old abortion ban still on the books - one of just a few around the country - in the event of legal challenges if Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision nullifying such statutes, is overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The measure is supported so far by a handful of Republican lawmakers and the Catholic-based anti-abortion group Pro-Life Wisconsin, which helped to draft it.

..end..

C'mon, even Mississippi found the "personhood amendment" unacceptable. What are these idiots thinking? Oh yeah, it'll lock of a few votes (and a few more dollars).

My problem with all the people who scream that life begins at conception is none of them actually believe it. Hundreds of thousands of embryos are spontaneously aborted very early in pregnancy. If these "babies" were born there would be funerals, last rites, all of it. But no one does anything for these "babies." We don't search to find their microscopic bodies. We don't bury them in sacred ground. We don't ask clergy for baptisms or blessings. We don't do those things because we ALL know that while something happened, and that thing is sad, it wasn't a death like any other death because it wasn't a life like any other life.

My problem with the choice people who scream about a woman's right to choose is they act like every abortion is at 3 weeks for a 13 year old girl who was raped by her step-father. Newsflash! Abortions at 4 months, 5 months, and later are a very different thing. This idea that choice and personal autonomy is absolute is ridiculous. It's narcissism gone wild.

Both sides want to hold up an extreme example of abortion and use it as the "typical" case. Choice advocates want us to think of the poor rape victim coming in days or weeks after her trauma. Pro-life screamers want us to imagine a vain caricature who changes her mind at 19 weeks after her boyfriend cheats on her, prompting her 3rd abortion. Both sides want us to treat all abortions as if they are the same.

They are NOT the same, and until we're willing to do the difficult work of sorting out the many issues related to abortion, and drawing some imperfect lines to define the rules, we will be plagued by the two camps of idiots who want us to act as if abortion is one monolithic thing that only requires either one loud YES, or one bellowing NO.
