Trump again won’t rule out a third-party run

Donald Trump is not ruling out a run for president as an independent if things go south for the front-runner in the Republican race.

"I'm going to have to see what happens," he told George Stephanopoulos in an interview that aired Sunday on ABC's "This Week." "I will see what happens. I have to be treated fairly."

Trump was responding to a Wall Street Journal report that Republican operatives are considering banding together donors from the other GOP campaigns in a bid to knock Trump off the top spot.
..
..
If Republican operatives succeed in knocking Trump off his perch, their plan could backfire if he then runs as an independent.

A July Washington Post-ABC News poll found that in a hypothetical general election matchup between Bush and Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, Clinton led 50 percent to 44 percent. But throw a third-party Trump run into the mix, and the poll found that he would tear support away Bush and give Clinton a 16-point lead.

no doubt about it.

With holidays kicking in, followed almost immediately by Iowa, the window to cut into his lead has closed, and no other candidate is even remotely in a position to beat him.

Jeb is toast.
Kasich is this year's Huntsman, going nowhere.
Carson will never win the racists and is already fading.
Rubio, stalled.
Cruz, not close, and aiming to be Trump's veep

Maybe Rand Paul. Way to split the vote between two fringe candidates.

Name recognition and perceived electability are the top priorities of the Democratic party.

Is either gonna be the GOP nominee and cause a floor fight at the convention or is gonna run third party .. If the Dems can't win we deserve to lose. We should get our shit together avs get the vote out and stop bickering cause if this fascist gets in we won't have a country left !!!! That's why whenever I see this Bernie vs Hillary garbage I ignore it. We have much bigger problems to worry about. We must vote against this radical crazy ass GOP. !!! It can happen here. It's happening m!! It only takes good people to turn the other cheek and not vote and not get involved until it's too late !!! This man is dangerous !!! Hillary and Bernie get your shot together stop bickering and call out Trump constantly !! We Must win next year

I'm sure reince piss is shitting himself tho lol. But we must still be vigilant !

In a lot of states if you lose the primary you can't be on the ballot for another party or independent in the general.

Not all, but enough that it would make an electoral win impossible.

For example, Trump has until December 14 to file to run in Texas GOP primary or run as an independent in Texas. He can not file for both

Many states have "no sore-loser laws" that prohibit someone who loses a primary election from running for the same office as an independent.

Filing deadlines will start catching up with him at some point as well.
