Are we watching the implosion of the Republican Party?

There is no leadership the are snipping at each other. They don't want debates unless they have all conservative moderators. They don't want bills on the floor unless they are in almost 100% agreement with them. This is ship sinking like the Titanic.

Somehow this question comes up every few months. They're still here, still around, still screwing everything up and blaming Dems for it.

They can stop almost any legislative progress for the entire country, because BOTH houses have to pass a bill.

influenced national thinking to the point it will be hard to reverse.

I would wager that most people still associate the GOP with good foreign policy and fiscal responsibility although really they have neither.

I would guess most people would think they were better for business and that "smaller government" is better even though when it came down to it most people want government to work not be dysfunctional.

I think the GOP might be where the Dems were in say the mid to late 70's, but it is going to take the actions of the Dems to push them over.

Obama and the dems are trying this now, but Obama especially wasted time by making nice after he won. In 08 he easily could have trashed the GOP both on their foreign policy, fiscal austerity, and and small gov't lies but he did not. Luckily the GOP has not really evolved since that time. In fact doubled down on old outdated policies because they have become so rigid. So it may not be too late.

The Republican Party who is based on corruption will never die from time to time they may have problems with elections. The slightly lesser alternate party of corruption will pick up the slack when necessary. In time all will make adjustments.

The Dems are their own worst enemy. If we want to see the demise of the Repug Party - the Dems need to get aggressive and not let up on the Repugs. The problem is - they always back down and each time that increases the longevity of the Repugs.

and that is GET THE "EFF" OUT AND VOTE THE "EFFERS" OUT OF "EFFING" OFFICE

They've been on the ropes so many times. We had them in 2008 just begging for a knock-out punch, and what did we do? We lifted them up off the floor and extended a hand-up.

Instead of crushing them into the ground and sending folks like Limbaugh and Hannity to early retirement with their tails between their legs like a scalded dog, we surrendered control of the government to the crazy aunt that lives in the attic.

Not only that, we've gotten to a point where we may very well ask if we are "watching the implosion of the Democratic Party".

The crazy aunts have taken over everything from Dog Catcher, to School Board to the House and Senate, and are one election away from having complete and total control.

Can you imagine? Just look at the devastation they've been able to do just on the State level.

No, we are not "watching" the implosion of the Republican Party, BUT, we CAN help it implode.

and the way the current GOP is heading, and the absolute insane Ayn Randian dreams they have for the country...well. there's never been a party that "needs killing" like this one does.

Get out and VOTE!!!!

Today is election day all over the country. There are seats up for grabs that really matter. The people elected today will shape School Boards, Local Government Policies, Legislation and how we function as a society.

Hell, an argument could be made that today's vote is infinitely more important than the one next November.

Doesn't matter if or even when the GOP fails. Our own party will move rightward ( as they have been ) and eventually become what the GOP was a decade or so ago.

so there's dissension in the people they put in congress and state houses.

The GOP establishment can't control the ReThugs (who so dishonestly call themselves "the freedom caucus&quot because they are all supported by wealthy families who will continue them in Congress as long as they continue to please. (Their big donors, of course, not the "constituents" they so loudly claim to serve.)

At the same time, the GOP establishment members are also supported by big money men.

I'm GUESSING the GOP would only "implode" if that's what some of the libertarian billionaires wanted as they determine to finish destroying most of our federal government regulations and programs. Otherwise, they'll probably all start playing nicer with each other.

Of course, there are the GOP voters who finally realize they've been screwed over but are too in the habit of blaming the left for everything to mount a genuine rebellion, and also too conforming and too dependent on an authority to direct them. A lot of moderate conservatives HAVE already left the party, but IMO the ones who remain will fall in line, with a hefty Fox/right-wing media assist as needed, because their views have become just too warped to allow them to face new realities.

ITM, we can at least enjoy, and hopefully benefit from the acting out of the TP/Base. They're making as stupid a statement as one might expect of them -- resentfully doubling down on their GIGO voting pattern by supporting Trump and Carson -- which is about as far from their usual authoritarian obedience as those barn-burners seem to be able to manage. But they're not going anywhere either because no one would follow them, and they like to hide their less respectable behaviors in a forest of other conservatives.

At least this's all causing some grief at home. A few billionaires may even lose some of the chump change they're investing again.

My take anyway...
