SF restaurant says no tipping, pays living wage and full benefits (PIC)

Zazie is proud to be Tip Free
Our menu prices include a living wage, profit sharing,
fully funded health & dental insurance, paid sick leave,
and a 401(k) with employer match for all our hard working employees.

S'il Vous Plait -- NO TIPPING -- Merci à Vous!

More and more Bay Area restaurants are experimenting with tipping and menu pricing models amid a quickly changing economic environment. The latest is the ever-popular Zazie in San Francisco’s Cole Valley.

Six years ago, Zazie owner Jennifer Piallat was one of the first to employ health care surcharges in the city, but now she is ditching that idea in favor of raising menu prices and eliminating both tips and surcharges, starting June 2.

She’s taking a novel approach as well, by including profit sharing among her 38 employees, half of which she says have been with her for over a decade.

restaurants should pay a living wage and all the benefits anyway and if people chose to tip they tip.

The reason I tip is because servers are (usually) so poorly paid. If the server is being paid a living wage, I'm not going to tip that person.

I do think it should be left up to the patron however.
