(27,985 posts)You all are. For real. Her best friend is pediatric oncology, that is a tough gig. My sister thinks that specialties which have typically bad endings are the hardest. Though, she's had some cases that cut her deeply.
Seriously, kudos to all of you. Every one of you is special and needed and probably don't hear it enough.

(23,487 posts)I'm a pediatric hospice and palliative care nurse working in a non profit hospice. We are being forced into a new computer system tomorrow because of the icd10. We chose to go from cerner to allscripts so our hospice is doing ALL OF THAT tomorrow. We have to readmit all of our patients into a new computer system. That means our next visits are admission visits, we have to reenter allllll our meds dme careplans etc into the new system. They spent two days teaching us the new computer system yesterday and I think I forgot it all.
Oy vey I'm freaking out! Thanks for letting me vent. The only good thing is that I'm an RN so I don't have to figure out the icd10 I just have to give really good descriptions of the diagnoses to the people who do that.
That's awful!
I'm glad that I do not code, but my charting will change alot. We've gone through a few test runs but I still feel like a fish out of water! I cannot imagine what our code and billing departments are feeling. I saw that they ordered a big lunch with cupcakes today from upper management.
This ICD-10 is the medical communities Y2K!
Hope you are able to get through it! I have a feeling the next few months are going to be headache inducing! UGH!

(7,515 posts)Fortunately I'm not on the war team that puts the code in at 12:01 tonight. Tomorrow is still going to be an interesting day though.

(17,041 posts)I cannot imagine your stress!
I think our facility will be okay, but there WILL be kinks.
Drink up! I know I am!

(13,869 posts)Good luck with that I'll try not to get injured for awhile
I hope you never have to deal with a V95.42XA, but you'll probably be seeing some Z99.89 and many more in the future.

The health care 'dictionary' gets expanded on Oct. 1 with diagnosing codes, called ICD-10, that allow doctors and clinicians to diagnose, and bill, with greater specificity. But with more choices, of course, comes some unusual injury codes.

(18,497 posts)We did a trial run a couple weeks ago and it was not pretty.
On the plus side there will likely be some overtime available for awhile.
Ah well, roll with it. What other option is there?
Is there an ICD-10 for pain in the ass?

(17,041 posts)for "fussy baby" LOL!
That'll be me!
We have no other choice than to roll with it. Agreed, there are no other options. It is what it is. I hope you have a good roll out day! It'll be interesting for sure!

(20,453 posts)...for all the pulmonary function testing I do (outpatient), our data management of the interpretation and billing for that has long been converted from ICD-9 to ICD-10 CM.
I guess this is one good reason to advance electronic charting. The bad side is that .... THIS IS WHERE ALL THE JOBS ARE in health care, it seems... HR is farmed out and the data rule our world...
