(1,406 posts)After the very difficult climb up to the Pass and feeling very proud of myself, there was a little Inca girl selling cokes from an old wooden coke case. No roads, everything must come up by foot. The steps of the trail are uneven; some two or more feet high and not horizontal.

(32,218 posts)There is an elevation sign there--indicating the altitude--although it's posted in meters. ( I converted it to feet
for the title of the photo.)

(42,770 posts)The Oshkosh Muffler Man has been standing at Fasco Appliance for almost 40 years. Bill Leinweber purchased the giant at an auction around 1976 to stand at Fasco; he didn't know where the giant had been before that.
International Fiberglass only made the 14-foot-tall versions for a short amount of time; it is believed that only 25 or 30 of them were completed. More than likely, International Fiberglass sold this lumberjack to another business in the mid-1960s before Bill bought it at auction ten years later. The owners hope to have this giant repainted sometime in 2014.

(42,770 posts)Ax vs. axe
Ax and axe are different spellings of the same word. Axe is standard in varieties of English from outside the U.S. Axe also appears in American English, but the newer spelling, ax, has gained ground over the last half century and is now more common.
