I was handed this puppers - recently adopted and due to unforseen circumstances, needing a new home.

(3,310 posts)It's one of the really big down-sides of being human. We outlive our best friends. What keeps us going is when we know it's our turn to cross The Bridge, such happy reunion wags and kisses we'll have.
It's been 5 years, but I still grieve for my Sadie. When it's my turn to cross The Bridge, hers is the first face I want to see.

(102,234 posts)But, we all live through it and I can only get through it this time, if I focus on those beloved faces waiting for me on the other side.
HillWilliam
(3,310 posts)but your friends are here to grab your hand and pass a kleenex when you need it. I don't know how I would have made it through the last year if not for the fresh air and love from DUers.
The grief never lessens, but in time you figure out where to put it, so that it's only a stepping stone to those snapshot memories that warm your insides.
I'm always available in PM. One of my (many) jobs in life is being an animal companion chaplain. I'm one of many dedicated to helping people cope with the pain of loss. No religion, no charge, just somebody to listen, share, and help others heal.

(9,791 posts)Oh, how precious. Our male cat Rocky had his own kitty too. Dogs and cats are so great together.
I'm so sorry about Bud. It's always inevitable but never easy to lose a furry family member. Lilly is one lucky pup and I'll bet Bud sent her to you.

(32,324 posts)Kind of astral doggie and kitty network. Works every bit as well as the internet or the phoning, emailing thing-ee.
The animals set each other up - or so we believe.
In any event, sorry that you lsot your friend. And thank goodness that the new doggie has a home with a good catty frined to help out.

(20,577 posts)that after they cross over, they work behind the scenes to make sure things like this happen. Has happened with my cats as well.
She is a sweetie and I bet she will be lots of fun.
Congrats to Lily - she scored big time!

(20,958 posts)it's been years since it happened, but it was the first dog i had, and the first loss, and i took it HARD. i was well on my way to an epic depression over it.
it was Thanksgiving weekend and we'd left him with a pet sitter. She didn't latch the gate and he escaped. while he was missing i put up flyers with his picture and my phone # -- a woman called and said she didn't find my dog...but that she had a dog who looked just like him, and he needed a home b/c his owner was going into an assisted living facility.
total kismet. i really needed him, and he really me.

(62,270 posts)My family has had at least one dog continuously for 40 years with less than a week of no dogs during that entire time frame.
Lily looks lovely, I know she won't be able to replace your other dog, but she will help, I think dogs can sense when you've had a loss and they try their best to make you feel better.
