"if you don't want to entice a rapist, don't wear high heels so you can't run from him"

Singer Chrissie Hynde has come under fire for suggesting it can be a woman's fault if she is raped.

"You know if you don't want to entice a rapist, don't wear high heels so you can't run from him," she said, in an interview in the Sunday Times.
The Pretenders singer, 63, said she takes "full responsibility" after she was sexually assaulted aged 21 in Ohio.

"If I'm walking around in my underwear and I'm drunk. Who else's fault can it be?" Hynde told Krissi Murison.

In her recently completed autobiography, Reckless, Hynde recounts how she was forced to perform sexual acts on members of an Ohio motorcycle gang who had promised to take her to a party, but instead took her to an abandoned house.
"Technically speaking, however you want to look at it, this was all my doing and I take full responsibility," said the singer, who recalled being high on drugs at the time.

"If I'm walking around and I'm very modestly dressed and I'm keeping to myself and someone attacks me, then I'd say that's his fault. But if I'm being very lairy and putting it about and being provocative, then you are enticing someone who's already unhinged - don't do that. Come on! That's just common sense."

1. Women who don't wear burkas are just asking for it!

Ask any republican. They will tell you. It's what god wants!

3. She has said so much stupid shit over the years

"Feminism led to the Pill, which led to illicit sex."

"What do women want? A body like mine." (at the What Women Want music festival)

The quote about if you fuck, you should just have babies, it's unnatural if you don't (can't find the exact quote)

I think if I ever met her, I'd end up punching her pretty fucking hard, but I still love The Pretenders.

11. Just a product of her time and place

She's old and from Ohio. She's a product of her '50s childhood and her small town. I feel sorry for her that for all her punk posing, she never really broke free.

4. A long time ago (B.C.: Before Computers) I was a regular reader of a radical feminist

newsletter (can't recall the name now) that referred to high heels as "victim shoes."

5. Some people are just damn stupid

As a guy, I take offense to the notion that if a woman is drunk or wearing high heels or little clothing that my penis won't be able to stop itself from leaping out of my pants and into her without her consent. I have yet to have so little control over myself to the point that I had to worry about such things. I'd be embarrassed if I was so helplessly driven by an appendage.

7. Women should never have to worry about that, it predates whatever other things that follows.

That is just some illogical bullshit, sad hearing it come from her since she was raped. I don't think saying 'it was the times' can make it go away.

The real point is it should never come to that point at all.

10. Never really a fan.

I like SINGERS that can, you know, sing? Just because you can garble incoherent shit into a microphone doesn't make you a singer. And the incessant 3-chords over and over. Jesus it was boring. I'm not even going to touch the she-dressed-too-provocatively-so-she-deserved-to-be-raped crap. That speaks for itself and it tells me all I need to know about her. She's devoid of talent and she's devoid of character.
