Political views aside, the man comes off, to me at least, as a really creepy person.
Anyone else see him that way?

(49,767 posts)I thought he was very creepy and I didn't know anything about him aside from he was a republican. He immediately reminded me of Joe McCarthy. As I learned more about him, he became more repulsive. This is one time when the appearance matched the personality.

from Bird Cage. More specifically, I'm referring to Lane's character when he was in drag, and pretending to be Robin Williams' wife, Mrs Coleman. ...I'm serious.
The moment Kruz begins talking, I see nothing but Nathan Lane in a pill-box hat.
Tell me Ted Cruz isn't Mrs. Coleman.

(123,983 posts)I had a psycho go after me for years who looked like a nerd. Scary people. Let us hope there is a pill they can be forced to take to make them human. But at the very least they should not be allowed to run for office. I don't understand why, after the 20th century, people with Cruz's personality can get so close to power. Seems like every generation has to learn the hard way.

(20,792 posts)Psychopaths are charming. They are supremely confident in their abilities. People are attracted to confident people because they think they must have something to be confident about.
They have a grandiose sense of self worth. Again, people are attracted to this. Think of the televangelists, like the one that said God wants him to have a $60 Million jet.
They are pathological liars, cunning and manipulative. Their self confidence and charm makes this a breeze.

(10,019 posts)...for a couple of years now, I can't shake the notion of comparing him with a sweaty-faced Charlie McCarthy, you know, the marionette. I don't remember if it was Abraham Lincoln or Edward Abbey who said that by the time a person was forty, they were pretty much responsible for the way they looked to the world. If I knew how to post a photo of Charlie McCarthy, I would. So there you go: A CREEPIER, sweaty-faced Charlie McCarthy. Without the top hat or monocle. And certainly without a kind, benevolent Edgar Bergen pulling the strings.

(95,734 posts)I keep remembering that Alan Dershowitz taught him Law and said he was the most brilliant student in the class, if ever. It was NOT an endorsement, btw.
What that assessment of his intelligence tells me is that Cruz is not saying stupid things because he is stupid -- he is saying what he thinks will get him votes from the debased base of the right wing. God knows what he believes about Gawd and the Bible -- but he will tell debase what they want to hear.
My husband actually starts saying things like "Stalin" and "Hitler" when he discusses Cruz, and that is highly unusual for him.
