Shut Down Taco Bell For ‘Being Too Mexican’

Tennessee Republican Wants Taco Bell Shut Down For ‘Being Too Mexican’

HAZARD, TENNESSEE -
Clem O'Connor is convinced that Taco Bell is "an agent working for the Mexican government" and they are "infiltrating American culture ...”

"You know there isn't a single hamburger to be found on Taco Bell's menu," Clem asked our interviewer rhetorically
while adding, "there is nothing more American than a hamburger ...
Would it kill them to put a nice steak and potato meal on their menu"

"It's just too Mexican in there," Clem told us, "that's all I'm saying. It's just too Mexican.
Would it kill them to put an apple pie on their menu?"

Taco Bell spends a lot of money on focus groups and similar stuff to make sure its image is Mexican, but not too Mexican. It's Mexican food for Americans, and they want to make sure Americans know you don't have to order in Spanish.

called a Bell Beefer. It was ground beef in their sauce on a hamburger bun topped with shredded lettuce and cheese. They were really good. I buy the Taco Bell seasoning packets at the grocery store and make them.

it is the American image of Mexican food, but it is about as authentically reflective of Mexican food as the General Tso's chicken you get at the take out place is of Chinese food.

Taco Bell is American food.

Calling a dumpster fire a chalupa doesn't make it Mexican food.

Hi,

Long ago & far away, Pepsico owned Taco Bell, KFC, A & W, and Frito Lay. They spun off or sold the fast food places to a new company called YUM based in Kentucky. More sell offs & reorganizations have followed.

Pepsi still owns Frito Lay. You can find many fast food places with 2 brands in one store. I live near a KFC/Taco bell.

Crooks and Liars isn't satire, but the "story" comes from a satire site, and there's a tag on the article that mentions satire.

Oh, c'mon. This is so obviously bullshit.

It's not even clever.

I hate sites like this. The Onion does it right, but all the other "satire" sites are stupid. They have no talent.
