Back Story for the NYC Shooting Yesterday

http://www.northjersey.com/news/nyc-shooter-from-fort-lee-had-been-fired-had-whistleblower-complaint-against-feds-1.1396606

The shooter was fired from his federal job for whistleblowing. This doesn't justify his use of deadly force against anyone, especially the unfortunate security guard who died of his gunshot wounds.

The big picture: The shooter was once a reasonable and responsible citizen with a federal job. He learned of a situation that needed attention, whether it be waste, corruption, or worse. And he lost his job because he was dedicated to his department, to the federal government, to his country.

It's bad enough when you lose your job. It's worse when it's retaliatory. And none of the federally elected representatives could help him.

He did his job. He was punished for doing his job. He couldn't move on because he was fired for doing his job.

This tragedy has to re-open the phenomenon for punishing whisteblowers.

I understand he may have been a whistle-blower, but attributing this shooting to his whitle-blowing seems unlikely.
Likely he lost his job for more than whistle-blowing if he was able to do something this nuts.
This is not to say that whistle-blowers are treated fairly or correctly, or that iwhistle-blowing is encouraged by the powers that be.
