MSNBC is broken, very very broken

yet again, All In has started with Donald Trump, this time at a Town Meeting. Yes, Donald Trump is in the lead on the GOP side, but he shouldn't be the lead off of show, after show, after show in MSNBC. It needs fixed.

Because of sports and my team being in the pennant race, plus more steady income, I may get cable soon. But I will be watching MSNBC far less frequently than in the past for numerous reasons including that they fired a lot of the left leaning hosts and even Rachel has become unwatchable, in that she seems to think her audience is dimwitted third graders who need to be talked down to. Probably the only one I'll definitely look for is Melissa Harris Perry.

Wed Aug 19, 2015, 09:24 PM

Donald Trump should not be the lead story on any channel. I am beginning to agree with some of the Republican contenders who claim the media is giving Donald Trump too much attention and that is part of the reason he is leading in the polls. All of the news media should be informing everyone of the ideas of all of the candidates. How much time has the media spent detailing where the other Republicans stand on immigration, college tuition, and debt? Has the media given people information concerning the policy positions of the Democratic candidates on the same issues? Senator Sanders and Senator Clinton gave multiple speeches over the last few days; however, I think the plans from those speeches have not received the same amount of attention as Donald Trumps talking points.

In the end, the MSM obsession with Trump has had several positive effects:

1. it has been been devastating to Bush and Walker (who were -- and still are -- the front runners for the nomination, but they have been damaged to the point that they may have been knocked back to being on par with Rubio);

2. it has served to highlight the differences between the Republican party and the sane majority -- if a fair immigration policy is important to any undecided voters, the MSM obsession has been a constant drumbeat to convince those voters they have no place in the Republican party -- if gender equality is an important issue for any voters on the fence, the MSM obsession has pointed out that the Republican party invites and welcomes misogyny -- if any undecided voter is have any interest in an adult discussion of policy, then the MSM obsession has confirmed that there is no place for that dialogue in the Republican party;

3. it has reinforced the point that the Republican field is a bunch of clowns with no leaders and no strong candidate, and a sizable minority of the nutjobs who will be selecting their nominee actually prefer the clowns fest.

in the end, I'd much rather listen to a Trump-a-thon than the bullshit phony tension (which does not exist between the Sanders campaign and Black Lives Matter (in truth, Sanders has a perfect record on race and he has given Black Lives Matter more access than any other campaign), the manufactured Clinton email controversy (Bush and several other Republican candidates also used a private email server), and the false will-he-or-won't-he nonsense about Biden (he's not running and there is not need for an "alternative to Clinton" because Sanders and O'Malley already serve as perfect alternative to Clinton who's not my first choice but whose candidacy and campaign are doing a damned sight better than Bush's or Walker's or Christie's or Paul's etc.).

I am in mourning, quite honestly. I've been a fairly constant watcher of MSNBC since Keith joined the network and now I feel lost. And it's not just MSNBC. Colbert, Jon Stewart, Letterman, in addition to Ed, all gone. And what is on MSNBC is unwatchable. I had watched Rachel almost daily since day one, but quit when they canned Ed in a fit of temper.

Rachel wasn't on her show the few times I've checked since I've cooled off. She has had Donald-dementia too to a degree when she is there. I like Chris Hayes and Lawrence but was not a truly regular viewer. I'm pissed too that they ignore Bernie, so I watch nothing.

48. MSNBC problems begin with Chris Matthews
Wed Aug 19, 2015, 10:42 PM
Aug 2015

This little twerp swings a big say about what goes on there. I recall him openly being very nasty and condescending to Ed on a primary election coverage program when they had all the anchors at one table. Matthews couldn't stand Keith either. Neither Ed or Keith showed much deference to the established political insiders from media and the beltway. Matthews on the other hand can't fall on his knees fast enough to kiss the backside of those people. Comcast isn't going to give a crap about ratings because this is now going to be THEIR propaganda channel. As a for instance would it really be too much to ask for at least one of the programs in over twelve hours of programming to have some actual serious experts on today to talk about the bills Alan Grayson introduced to raise Social Security benefits? Because the subject is anathema to Comcast it will not happen. Instead we get hours of Trump and we get at least our one hour of vile backbiting from Andrea Mitchell and our 3 hours of Morning Joke foaming at the mouth about e-mail. Why in all this time can't somebody just look at that idiot and say to him "If e-mail and servers are so damned important then why after all these weeks have you not had on an IT person who could explain to us how this all works rather than all of this mindless speculation?" There are two reasons why that hasn't happened. First of all anybody who did say that would never appear on air again and secondly they all know that the mindless speculation fuels doubt and that is what the producers/hosts want. Cross that up and you will be gone and no more TV appearance fees. So they sell out.

I am sure a lot is censored in our news, and we don't hear about it. I have seen stories from overseas newspapers of stuff that should be covered by American news, that are not. Why is that? The corporations are editing our news for us...and the days of real news is dead, in favor of the newest shiny thing.

Neither MSNBC nor any other media outlet are creating the Trump situation, nor could they put a stop to it by boycotting him or whatever.

You lead with what's making the biggest splash, and lately it's been Trump.

He is a product of a dynamic within the Republican Party that is very real, and neutral to beneficial as to Dems and liberals.

Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow are doing their usual excellent job of discussing all the insanity going on with wit and intelligence.

I also continue to think any panic or freak-out among any Dems or liberals as to Trump is misplaced.

He is not a strong candidate for a general election, and most of the damage flying from his wild gyrations is detracting from real Republican players like Rubio and Bush.

Have you noticed he isn't even particularly attacking Democratic candidates?

If you think Trump is actually strengthening RW positions by what he's saying and doing, or that lefty commentators are facilitating that by simply covering the chaos, I don't think you're fully appreciating what's actually going on.

My take on MSNBC - the 'liberal' hosts are allowed to attack certain GOP politicians - the ones that GOP leaders don't want in the running. Hence the constant attacks on Chris Christie back during the bridge scandal & now Trump. Their hosts are doing the work of the GOP - to take down undesirable candidates - & MSNBC can claim that they are more liberal than the other stations.

In every step of the game, we are being played.

She played his rant about the illegal mesicans pouring over the border to rape and pillage, Then Nancy showed a murder supposedly done by an illegal. Then she showed another murder by another illegal.

The whole point was, "Look how insightful Donald Trump is and look how much of a failure Obama is for inviting these murderers into the country."

Ordinarily when Nancy talks about a murder she tells about the evidence and speaks to investigating officers. In this instance she did none of that. She went clear outside the regular protocol, such as it is.

I understand this is CNN. I understand it's Nancy Grace a shock jock. But this was entirely different. This was a slimy message. That message was, "Great job, Trump! Mesicans are terrible, they will kill us."
