Question for Mineral Man Or anyone that could answer.

Last edited Sat Aug 15, 2015, 09:00 AM - Edit history (6)

Our indie Movie Facebook page is hitting monthly 300K FB Reach and a 30K Post engagement.

Is that good comparatively?

We also have six months before we release the movie on Amazon, Itunes etc. Also Planning on increasing our social media footprint.

Likely will submit it to Austin Fantastic Film Fest and ?maybe Festival international du film.

Anyway, is there some place that I could compare that? It's seems pretty good. Just would like to compare it to something.

Been comparing our progress to another production: "Harbringer Down" Staring Lance Henrickson, got released last week and had only 2554 FB likes at the time. Since it's release, it zoomed to 8K
We are at 1714 right now.

Multiple articles in the pipe and various other stuff and we are still months out from release.

Thanks

I watched the trailer and I'm going to make sure I see it. Lance Henrickson is a good actor -- I remember him from the Millennium show by Chris Carter back in the 90s. I love creepy sci-fi flicks.

don't really have any comparative information in that particular business sector. It's not easy to come up with comparisons unless you're involved and have plenty of time to dig out the info and compile it.

For an indie film project, though, it looks like you've created some considerable buzz. Get an award or two, and that buzz will increase. As in politics, name recognition is crucial. That's the most difficult thing to create. In the indie film world, festivals and awards are the best generator of name recognition.

I wish you the best of luck with your project!

Appreciate the advice, it's very solid. And thanks about the Buzz comment, yeah we really are working our butts off to create the buzz.

We are for the most part following that model. Except we are aiming for a series of digital distribution deals and relying on film festivals for hard copy distribution, since that is becoming a fading market.

We figure we will likely end up in the ball park of Grave Encounters they ended up earning about six to eight million give or take at our best estimate.

Say are there any place I could look at for comparing different things other than movies? I might be able to find something that could be used as an approximate comparison.

Thanks again!

It takes individual sleuthing and actual comparisons of numbers for comparable things. For example, you could do some research on other indie films at about the scale of yours and go look at the social media venues and do your own counts. It's never easy, and can be hugely time-consuming.

I do it from time to time for website clients. The amount of competition and how their internet presence is working can be a useful thing. But, most companies keep their numbers out of public view, for obvious reasons. It's important information that most people consider to be proprietary.

Probably, it wouldn't be the best use of your time, really, to try to dig out those numbers about competing films. Instead, time spent on places where independent films are being discussed publicly would probably be more effective.

Several years ago, I become interested in a film, Jane White is Sick and Twisted. David Michael Latt & Kim Little were the principals in the production. It was weird and unusual, but I found it terribly amusing. So, I made an effort to dig into it, and ended up being in touch will Latt and Little, via email. There's a prototype poster for it, signed by everyone involved, hanging on my wall now. It never became the cult classic it might have become, though. That's my only contact with the indie film industry, though.

right avenue or approach. At least we are doing the right thing. I was very worried we were missing something.

Thanks again, your information has made me feel better about our doing our own research.

Thanks!
