teens insult low income elderly man's rundown house within his earshot. volunteers mobilize
For four years, Josh Cyganik, a Union Pacific Railroad track inspector in Pendleton, Ore., waved to 75-year-old Leonard Bullock each morning on his way to work.
The two men never exchanged more than a friendly greeting, until Cyganik heard two obnoxious teenagers thoughtlessly insulting Bullock’s house within earshot of the elderly man. “Look at this crappy house — they just need to burn it down!” the young cads said, reported Cyganik on Facebook. “I saw the look on Leonard’s face,” Cyganik said in an interview published on the Union Pacific Railroad website. “I could tell the comment bothered him.” ![]() Before ![]() During ![]() After ![]() http://www.uprr.com/newsinfo/community_ties/2015/august/josh-cyganik.shtml

5. Last night at a community group, the local code enforcement officer said
It'll be a few months, but he's working on getting a volunteer group together that will help out one Saturday a month the people with code issues. He even said, if someone is sick or whatever and are only getting their little Social Security checks, giving them a ticket doesn't help. So he's going to be looking for people that can mow lawns and litter pickup.
I look forward to doing trash pickup in the future. This story is the same thing...be a good neighbor, help people out. ![]() |

9. K&R! Thanks for posting this story, Liberal_in_LA. Stories like these help me keep my faith in the
random acts of human kindness. Like others, I wish that the 2 teenagers had volunteered also but they were probably too busy kicking a stray dog or sitting on their asses playing video games.
As for Josh... I salute you, sir! YOU are one of the people who are part of the solution, instead of the problem. Your actions prove to the world that you are a true MAN OF ACTION & DEDICATION to your fellow human beings. THANK YOU for being a shining star among all of the "black holes" of the Human Race! Has anyone set up a gofundme account for Mr. Bullock yet, that anyone knows of? Peace, Ghost |

13. It's great to see people helping like this.
For some time, I have had the idea that, instead of putting people in prison for non-violent crimes, they can do work like this. It serves society so much better. This is true community service. It helps this one man, and it helps them all.

My father's house was way more work than I anticipated. He had 10ft high ceilings, the rooms were 14x14x 10ft When I was I kid it always seemed like such a Tiny house, but once I got in there and started working I was like "Oh ok so this is house is huge. Yikes"

25. There's really is a lot of goodness in this world
TV and print journalists, including pundits, have to cover the "news" which almost by definition is always bad. There's a rule in journalism: "If it bleeds, it leads." And that rule shows us an ugly and dangerous world.
That tends to make us all pretty cynical and we end up holding little hope for the human species. Stories like this one are encouraging. And I'll bet that the people who worked on Mr. Bullock's house held a variety of conflicting views on politics, religions, etc. Nonetheless, they came together to do something good and noble. |

for being generous with their equipment, too.
This could also be an excellent use for the thousands of gallons of mis-tinted paint that are thrown out each year. |
