Being racist xenophobic assholes has been the GOP business model for my entire adult life. If there's anything "different" about Trump, it's only that he comes out and says what everybody else is trying to dog-whistle.

The Republican base is volatile, but childlike in their lack of political sophistication. They exist in the moment, without thought for the inevitable consequences. They want the razzle-dazzle Hollywood version of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (with an AK47). They want to see politicians unzip their flies as proof of manliness, they live for zingers and the loud-mouthed chest thumping to demonstrate bravery, is gravy to them. The more pandering there is to their recycled, vengeful god, the more more righteous their cause, and the promised agenda can never sound too outlandish or preposterous. The crowd loves Trump because he is a great entertainer and a masterful showman who can titillate even the most jaded conservative.

for the entire year, I know what you mean. They had Faux Noise all the time, eating it up and yelling at the TV. I finally figured it out. It is the "news"casting application of the Gish Gallup. A new thing almost every week with a new crop of outrage and fury of what O_BOMMA!!!!! is doing to their precious country. Some stories had some legs that lasted more than a week, but mostly it was a new scandal, some new law, some new outrage every week.

I was never so happy to move in my life. And I hate moving.

It was a clear hit job, asking Turnip mostly personal attack questions like "why did you declare for bankruptcy, why did you contribute to Democrats, why did you call women names". There's no way you can show what you know in responding to those kinds of questions. Fox will plan to push their true corporate approved republican candidate once Turnip drops out.

Because I'm not functionally a vegetable, but from a purely partizan point of view that is disturbing. Shows that they don't care about issues. Plus they may as well be softballs to trump as those are questions he's used to answering. Now grill him on, say, forien policy or even domestic policy and watch him meltdown.

people I've never met, friended me on FB a while back. They don't post often, but when they do, it's usually some rightwing nonsense. Based on their posts this AM, they love Trump. The more outlandish shit he spews, the more they love him. I think Fox's hit squad backfired. They were so intent on bringing him down with personal attacks, they ended up looking like bullies. It will be very interesting to see what they try next. Pass the popcorn. On to round 2.
