After a year of high-profile police shootings of black Americans, many captured on video, racial attitudes among Americans particularly whites have undergone a significant shift.
A majority of whites now say the country needs to do more to make equal rights a reality, and a significantly larger number of white Americans say that blacks are treated less fairly than others by law enforcement officials, according to several newly released polls.
The share of Americans who say that racism is a big problem in the U.S. has grown significantly as well.
Asked whether the country needs to continue making changes to give blacks equal rights with whites or whether it already has made the changes needed, Americans just short of 2 to 1 say more change is needed, according to a survey by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center.

(18,890 posts)But I think having a 2 term black president brought the racist trolls out from under their moldy bridges. The endemic racism in our society is being seen in the 'light of day' because the nasty little racist trolls cannot resist coming out of hiding after almost 7 years under a black president.
They are FREAKING OUT and can no longer hide their racism under white hoods or 'flags' or "....but one of my best friends is black-isms.".
They are feeling overwhelmed and very small and insignificant - they are trying to fight back - because being a white male made them feel superior..... They are feeling smaller every day.
Obama scares the SH*T out of them - and they likely detest Michelle (as a woman - similar mindset) to a higher degree.
The good news is that all the kids and young adults growing up w/ them as role models will likely reduce the endemic racism in this country w/in 10 or less years.
