Why so quiet? Don't want women riled up about arms control in an election year ?

(21,925 posts)I understand he had incidents with his wife and she took out a restraining order. He also supposedly spoke out against women who seek abortions. But in the theater he shot 11 people, some of them male, killing 2 and wounding 9 others. Does the hate crime legislation as written cover the hunting and murder of women? It should and this issue deserves more comment and research.

Women fought for sexual harassment laws.
Women are still fighting.

Why doesn't the media cover it?
Good question. They mention his radical RWNJ wingnuttery, but not that.
Police claim they "may never know" what his motive was.
Angry misogynist murders women at showing of film by feminist comedian; police worry we may not find a motive.

He was a typical AWM (angry white male).
It's terrorism. They won't call it that because he's white.

(21,925 posts)Unfortunately, Louisiana's hate crime legislation seems to be weak, adding an additional 5 years to a murder sentence and small fine, but said sentence to run concurrently with the sentence for the underlying offense. Still, mere recognition of this as a hate crime by the prosecutor would highlight an area of controversy, hate crimes according to gender and whether they are adequately prosecuted as such when they occur.
