I understand he had incidents with his wife and she took out a restraining order. He also supposedly spoke out against women who seek abortions. But in the theater he shot 11 people, some of them male, killing 2 and wounding 9 others. Does the hate crime legislation as written cover the hunting and murder of women? It should and this issue deserves more comment and research.

And his known anti-women/anti-feminist views, I would not be a bit surprised. Much about this seems to indicate misogyny was a likely motivation.

I believe that if homosexuality occurred only amongst women, we wouldn't have gay rights.

if something doesn't affect men, it's not going to be an important issue, and it will not receive enough traction to "win."

Women won the right to vote. Women won the right to choose. Women fought for sports equality.

Women fought for sexual harassment laws.

Women are still fighting.

I'm no victim, and neither are the sisters of my generation.

That guy killed a bunch of female engineering students. Canada brought in tightened gun control laws after that. The current Conservative government rolled those back, within the last few years. Now they are polling at under 30%.

He ranted multiple times when invited onto some NBC program about women and abortion - basically, he hates both.

Why doesn't the media cover it?

Good question. They mention his radical RWNJ wingnuttery, but not that.

Police claim they "may never know" what his motive was.

Angry misogynist murders women at showing of film by feminist comedian; police worry “we may not find a motive.”

From WaPo: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2015/07/24/tv-hosts-remember-alleged-lafayette-gunman-as-anti-tax-anti-feminist-gadfly/

He was a typical AWM (angry white male).

It's terrorism. They won't call it that because he's white.

Unfortunately, Louisiana's hate crime legislation seems to be weak, adding an additional 5 years to a murder sentence and small fine, but said sentence to run concurrently with the sentence for the underlying offense. Still, mere recognition of this as a hate crime by the prosecutor would highlight an area of controversy, hate crimes according to gender and whether they are adequately prosecuted as such when they occur.
