on Lawrence O'Donnell's show that the Texas authorities asked them to return her body from Chicago to Texas for another autopsy. It appears that they screwed up the first one. Fortunately the family will not do that. Lawrence suggested that they get some Federal involvement. This whole thing STINKS!

The family didn't have enough money to bail her out during those 3 days.
The justice system is all about race class and money.
It's so sad.

It reminds them of the constitutional duty to keep prisoners safe and to provide medical care.
It pleads with the sheriff to run a transparent investigation.

Unreal. Notice at beginning of video it took all of 1 second to spot an African American with out of town plates and ZOOM U-turn to follow her.

I was pulled over once by a cop that claimed I took a turn too fast.
I pointed at the passenger seat.
There rested a birthday cake I had just bought from the bakery.

(26,080 posts)As for returning the body I dont see the point to be honest, if its a minor issue like needing an additional sample from the body or an x ray for something they can ask the guy doing the current examination but it does not pass the smell test otherwise to ask for it to be returned to Texas.

He has ambition, and BIG PLANS for Waller County growing as it's in the path of Houston's sprawl.

(24,411 posts)The cop's coroner performed their concocted, corrupt autopsy and declared their findings. They didn't expect that her family would take it this far. They've probably killed others without consequence, and they're probably wondering how they got so unlucky this time.
If they want that body back, it's to tamper with it or botch the investigation.
Hell no. They should NOT get her body until the family has concluded their own autopsy and investigation.
It's debatable whether or not they should even be allowed near her body, after all of this.
Can they be any more transparent? Obviously, they're wanting to cover up something or examine the body more closely so they can concoct more lies and probably alter her body in ways that back up the new lies they are about to tell.
They know they are screwed. They know exactly what that autopsy is going to reveal. That she sustained injuries that killed her--injuries that she could NOT have have done to herself and that certainly weren't created by a hanging. The autopsy will most likely show that she died way before she was hung. And they hung her after she died. If that is the case, it will be verifiable in the autopsy.
There are good cops out there. Decent, hard-working cops. These ingrates are not in that group. I hope they are punished to the full extent of the law.

(21,548 posts)The funeral is scheduled for Saturday in Chicago. The body has already been transported there. Now the Texas authorities say the remains cannot be buried. Meantime, the Texas DA is leaking results of their first autopsy, even though they admit it is "flawed".
This is the equivalent of leaving Michael Brown's body in the street of Ferguson for five hours before it was moved.

(3,937 posts)I can't see where the family has released the results. That is incriminating right there -- the Texas autopsy was fine, case closed until... the Chicago autopsy gets done.
Is it even possible to hang yourself with the plastic bags that would be a in small cell -- 13 gallon bag at most? The bag would have to be capable of suspending a 5'-5" 120 lb human off the ground in a cell with an 8 ft ceiling for 3 minutes or more without stretching or tearing. There are McGyver episodes more plausible than that.

(26,582 posts)You can hang yourself by slumping over, kneeling, or crouching with your feet or body still on the ground.

(28,581 posts)I just watch the district attorney on cnn making the victim look as terrible as possible. He painted her as a pot smoking cutter. There is no way his office can be fair about this, especially in a grand jury situation. He has already decided that the police did nothing wrong and the victim was to blame.
chenildieu
(19 posts)Whether it was murder or suicide, the cops' attorney will dredge up her worst secrets and make them public, to bolster their claim that she was unstable and did it to herself. It's how the justice system works, and it's logical, but it will be agonizing for those who loved her.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)We can see the video of the "arrest."
The officer lost his temper over nothing. He took her off camera. We can assume that he knew that he was going to beat her up, although that has to be proved. We never saw what she looked like after that although there may be some video of her in her cell.
She complained that the officer was hurting her wrists. Could the scars on her wrists have been recent and due to the officer's conduct or were they most definitely older.
Even if she did smoke pot and cut herself, that information would have nothing to do with the false arrest and the stress that she would have suffered as a result of her terrible treatment by the officer.
In fact, if she was mentally vulnerable, a defendant has to take the plaintiff or the victim for what they are. If she was vulnerable, the officer had a duty to treat every person as vulnerable.
Marrah_G
(28,581 posts)And he would be the one deciding what "evidence" the grand jury sees or does not see. Unless this goes federal or the state appoints a special prosecuter, I doubt there will ever be a grand jury indictment.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)How relevant is it that she may have been a cutter at one time or that she used marijuana?
I don't see any relevancy of those facts. I don't see the relevancy of facts about the victim.

(28,581 posts)But to some people it will matter. The major issue is that a prosecutor went on national tv and slandered a dead girl for no reason. He sounded more like a defense attorney.
Yo_Mama
(8,303 posts)her arrest. Any mental problems that she may have had might contribute to her death, so are relevant.
We are left with what seems clearly to be a wrongful arrest and then a subsequent death in custody, and the wrongful arrest cannot be separated from the death, whether suicide or murder.
As an outsider, looking at this from the little we know, it seems to me that the officer's actions are such that he bears a large portion of the responsibility for her death, even if it is a suicide.
I don't have any difficulty imagining that a person could be so despairing in these circumstances as to commit suicide. It must have seemed to her that the whole system was against her. Even if she got out on bail and was able to retain her new job, could she have confidence that just driving down the road to the supermarket the same type of thing wouldn't happen again? Could she have belief in her own future?
This is what civil rights violations do to people. They lose all confidence in themselves, in society, in justice and in their own futures. That's why civil rights violations are so completely destructive.

(493 posts)What does it mean when an autopsy shows marijuana in the system?
The toxic dose of THC being well above and truly what anyone could even unreasonably consume or take in, the presence of it merely indicates that the deceased had been using it at some point within a period up to a month ago, depending on the test that identified it. Thus, the presence of THC and metabolites indicating marijuana use means nothing other than that they used marijuana and is not a reasonable indicator of anything else.
