That crazy Rickett guy we're hearing so much about all of a sudden owns my beloved Cubbies!

Don't fret about it.

(24,853 posts)Cuz that ain't the way I understand it. If you're a "true DU'er", you do as the group does, and supporting anything or anyone outside the ideology ain't kosher.

(22,143 posts)Not only did he screw my family personally but he's also a teabagger extremist that funded the idiotic Atlas Shrugged movie. A full on Randian. I have a great time rooting against them every year.

(6,539 posts)I think about how awful the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche have become under Stan Kroenke and his Wal-Mart sons. Even the Broncos have sucked for ten years. Then when they finally went to the playoffs, each time, they fired the quarterback! (Jake Plummer & Tebow)
Better to stop investing your emotions and money in these losers.

(23,524 posts)It made me feel better anyway. I think 2 of the 3 sibling owners are repubs and one is a dem. I guess you can't blame them for what daddy did. However, they probably bought the team with daddy's millions. It's all kinda gross when you think about it.

(30,730 posts)The Tribune Company owned them prior to the Ricketts family. The Trib is republican.
I don't imagine old P.K. Wrigley was ever a liberal, either.
Root for the team. Drink beer. Eat hot dogs.

(18,402 posts)We used to be avid Cubs fans, but moved away from Chicago in the late seventies, only to return in 2004. Went to a few games at Wrigley and found the team awful and the place full of drunks. My husband goes to White Sox games now, and says the Cubs are not a real team anyway. So sad, but true. Maybe Theo Epstein can work some magic (and it's a small reason for sticking with them), but it's not happening this season. The Ricketts thing is kind of the twist of the knife.
I don't want you to give up being a Cubs fan just because we did: we've lived in so many cities that we don't really have a team anymore: if the Twins, the Red Sox, the Cubs, or White Sox are playing, we're for them. But not the Yankees (even though we lived in New York for seven years). Yankees suck.
