Bland was pulled out of her car window by the arresting officer.

A friend said she called him from jail Friday night and told him her version of what happened.

"She was smoking when he pulled her over. Told her to put her cigarette out, she had an exchange of words and it just went downhill. She said he snatched her out of the window and slammed her on her face," LaVaughn Mosely said.

time to a black person. She happened to come along.

The Texas Department of Public safety has already said that their preliminary review suggests that the arresting officer violated several department policies in how he conducted himself. http://www.dps.texas.gov/director_staff/media_and_communications/2015/pr20150716a.htm

This is going to get really ugly.

Widespread Panic fan dead after Mississippi cops hogtie him and place him face-down on stretcher

A Mississippi man died Saturday evening after police hogtied him and placed him face-down after he became unruly on his way home from a concert.

Troy Goode, a 30-year-old chemical engineer, was intoxicated after a Widespread Panic concert and rode home with his wife, said an attorney for the man’s family.

He started acting rowdy during the ride, jumped out of the car and ran around outside a shopping center about 7:45 p.m.

Police were called, and Goode’s wife said the officers aggressively confronted him.

A witness said Goode opened the door to a K-9 patrol car, letting the dog out.

The officers subdued Goode, who was asthmatic, and hogtied him and placed him face-down on a stretcher, the attorney said.

The attorney said witnesses heard Goode, the father of a 15-month-old child, screaming that he could not breathe.

Goode’s wife believed police were taking him to jail, but instead they took him to an area hospital — where he died about three hours later.

“They came and found him, and what happened after that, how he ended up at Baptist (Memorial) Hospital, I don’t know,” said attorney Tim Edwards. “I do know that Baptist reported to Troy’s mother that he was stable, and less than two hours later they called and said he’d expired.”

Police have not released any other details about Goode’s death or hospitalization, and his body has been taken to Jackson for an autopsy.

The attorney said he believes a bystander recorded video of the incident, and he asked witnesses to come forward to help explain what happened.

“The family as you might expect is grieving, and they are not irrational at all, but they want answers — they want to know why Troy died,” Edwards said.

Have seen several news stories lately about different incidents but they don't hold people's attention or get much traction. I recall the numbers are around 250 white people and 125 black people killed by police every year, per DOJ/FBI stats.

"Bland, a civil rights advocate who had moved to the Houston area from suburban Chicago for a new job at Prairie View A&M University, "wasn't comfortable getting out of the car," Lambert said. So the trooper "looked to force her to get out of the car by way of opening the door and started demanding that she do," Lambert said."

9. Facing Down Taser, Sandra Bland Was Told By Officer: "I Will Light You Up!"

http://www.commondreams.org/news/2015/07/21/facing-down-taser-sandra-bland-was-told-officer-i-will-light-you

While many questions still remain about what exactly happened to Sandra Bland in a Texas jail cell before she was found dead under mysterious circumstances on July 13, those looking for answers about why she was initially placed under arrest three days earlier were offered a look at devastating dash-cam footage released by the Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday evening which showed the arresting officer, Texas State Trooper Brian Encinia, actively escalating a situation with violence and threatening the unarmed black woman with a Taser.

The manner in which the escalation occurred led law enforcement officials to say that Encinia had not followed department procedures and failed to "maintain professionalism" during the arrest.

In one shocking moment, the officer tells Bland that if she does not get out of her car he will "light her up." Subsequently, after she objects to having her head banged against the ground and telling him that she suffers from epilepsy, Encinia responds by saying, "Good."
