Black conservative group claims Cosby accusers "Opportunistic"

http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/black-conservative-group-defends-bill-cosby-accusers-are-%E2%80%98opportunistic%E2%80%99/ar-AAcOPTF

Whoopi Goldberg isn't alone. Bill Cosby is getting defended by black conservative public policy organization Project 21.

The group, sponsored by the National Center for Public Policy Research, released a statement condemning the judge who unsealed Cosby's 2005 deposition, calling the decision "appalling."

"A decision to unseal documents is a weighty one and should only occur under exceptional circumstances - circumstances that have nothing to do with the popularity (or lack thereof) of one of the litigating parties," said Horace Cooper, co-chairman of Project 21.

If he were white, would it be such a big deal?

If he were MLK, would it be tolerated?

And were he a social activist instead of a rich actor, would we criticize him?

He's well off, and therefore a 1%er.

He's fairly conservative, so he doesn't use his wealth for good, so we don't allow him redemption on that score, even if he weren't an accused rapist. Moreover, many African-Americans have long criticized what he's said, to the point of mischaracterizing not just his methodology in shows like "Fat Albert," given all the wisdom and cunning afforded by hindsight, but his intent. Many disliked the Huxtable family, again in hindsight. And what Cosby said about black kids needing to take opportunities when presented really, really rankled a lot of people over the years was beyond the pale. He dared to blame the drowning man for not grabbing what life preservers were offered.

And since he's black, the only people that are going to defend him are ... ?

Funny to watch the contortions people make to tie every issue back to the 1%. As in tiresome and transparent.

I think I missed the part where MLK put quaaludes in the drinks of unsuspecting women so that he could rape them.

And that this was not a one off (not that only being once would make it any better) but happened repeatedly.

Do you have evidence that MLK did any such thing?

Don't go smearing somebody else just to make a point, because this is unfair.

These assholes are defending a rapist.

Just because *some* rich white men get off easy for rape doesn't mean we shouldn't throw the book at Cosby.

Or do you think we should go easy on him because he's black? And for no other reason?

This group's only concern is that Cosby's world view is lauded by them, unlike the majority of other black public figures and celebrities who take political stands, and they think they are exposing some sort of hypocrisy amongst the white liberal media. They are full of it. Cosby will likely never face a true day in court, but the evidence is pretty clear.

When has the left defended a known rapist? The left, including DU members, have been willing to criticize social activist for their wrong doings. The left is normally far more willing to criticize one of their own than the Republican Party is willing to criticize one of their own.

He is not fairly conservative; he is a hypocrite. What is conservative about Bill Cosby's actions. Cosby did not practice what he preached. That is the main reason his testimony was released. If Cosby had sought drugs to give to women he wanted to have sex with and not criticized black people for what were perceived as bad decisions his testimony would not have been released.

How did anyone mischaracterize what Bill Cosby said?

Once again, what are you talking about? Most black people liked both Fat Albert and the Huxtable family. Most black people liked the idea that the family showed black families in a positive light.

Actually most black people were not angered that Bill Cosby told black kids to take the opportunities they were given. Most people were angry that Cosby made statements about black parents without actually talking to black parents. Much of what Cosby said about black families in his speeches was not true. Black parents were trying to raise their children right and keep them on the right path.

So, yes their perspective is hard to understand. They are still defending a man after he admitted to getting drugs to give to women with whom he wanted to have sex.
