Latino Leader On Donald Trump: He Is ‘Exposing A Lot Of The Dirty Truths Of The Republican Party’

Real estate mogul and presidential candidate Donald Trump touted his business and dealmaking expertise in his campaign launch speech last month, saying, “I did a lot of great deals and I did them early and young, and now I’m building all over the world.” But remarks he made in that same speech are threatening his business empire as companies move to distance themselves from the candidate who said that undocumented immigrants from Mexico “killers and rapists.” On Monday, NBC cut ties with Trump and on Wednesday, Macy’s announced it would stop carrying merchandise from his brand.

“We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico,” Macy’s said in a statement. “We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation.”

Trump responded on Wednesday, saying it was his decision to terminate his relationship with Macy’s and NBC because the corporations clearly “support illegal immigration, which is totally detrimental to the fabric of our once great country.”

One group that hasn’t yet cut ties with the real estate mogul is the Republican Party. While NBC, Univision and Macy’s have publicly denounced his beliefs, members of the Republican party have remained silent or have expressed their support for his anti-immigrant sentiment. On Tuesday, 2016 candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), whose father is Cuban, defended his opponent, saying, “I like Donald Trump. I think he’s terrific, I think he’s brash, I think he speaks the truth.”

2. As far as "the flat earther" Ted Cruz, birds of a feather... I wonder if Trump said that

about Cubans if he would feel the same?

4. "Exposing"????

The truths about the republican party are obvious to anyone paying attention. Trump says them directly and out loud, but the truths have never been hidden.

5. I don't know how their racism could be surprising. Sounds like this guy didn't give a shit as long

as the Republican/Fox News establishment was badmouthing other minority groups. They've been on a race bait overload against the black community since Trayvon Martin. There's also the constant demonization of Muslims. Now, we're likely to see an increase in homophobia as a backlash to the Supreme Court decision.

The rage was bound to spill over at Latinos at some point.

6. Not all Latinos pay close attention to the political process.

Trump will make it hard for them not to know where the GOP really stands.

7. Latino citizens often have close friends and family members who are undocumented.

They also feel very strongly about family ties and community loyalty, and they take insults to themselves and their family or community very seriously. My grandparents were Sicilian immigrants. Like Latinos--and many other traditional societies--Sicilians also are intensely loyal to family, friends, and community.

The Republicans are poking at a very large (and growing) nest of angry hornets. I hope Democrats are wise enough to make sure that every eligible Latino citizen is registered and has the required ID and a way to the polls, especially in the red states like Texas and Arizona with a large Latino population.

10. Not at all, but tRump is bringing it so blatantly out into the open

what once they tried to at least veil is now about as inconspicuous as the mayor marching down Main Street with 10,000 Irishmen and a pipe band on St. Patrick's Day.

8. Another dirty truth

is that the Republican Party (at least in my lifetime) has shown itself repeatedly to be one that disrespects actual democracy, and the wide majority of its politicians in office only to game the system for the power and money they can obtain. The previous "vice president" with whom we were burdened for eight years, is a prime exemplar.

9. I hope tRump sticks around in the race for a good long while.

He's an incarnation of all of the worst things about this country - a rich, entitled, arrogant, ignorant, selfish, bigoted, racist pig. Had he been born in a poor or middle class family rather than into wealth he, like any of the Bush spawn, would have risen no higher than night manager of a Denny's in some jerkwater town in the middle of nowhere.
