Everybody's slapping Obama on the back right now but the Prez might still be hiding behind the curtains in the East room if Biden hadn't let it slip. I love me some Joe.

You have to hand it to Joe Bidenthere arent many people who can threaten years of careful triangulating with a few comments the way he can.
GREGORY: Youre comfortable with same-sex marriage now?
BIDEN: Look, I am Vice President of the United States of America. The President sets the policy. I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women, and heterosexual men marrying women are entitled to the same exact rights. All the civil rights, all the civil liberties. And quite frankly I dont see much of a distinction beyond that.

In the Thomas hearings, meanwhile, Biden allowed another smear campaign one which went from partisanship to being very personal, Calabresi said.
Hausknecht said Biden allowed the Thomas hearings to degenerate into a personal show trial by letting University of Oklahoma law professor Anita Hill make accusations about alleged improper remarks and actions she attributed to Thomas.
Thomass recent autobiography, My Grandfathers Son: A Memoir, accuses Biden of unfair treatment, noting that Biden had promised Thomas would be considered on the basis of his qualifications alone.

(37,549 posts)the fact is Joe Biden suppress several of Anita Hill supporting witnesses a very different picture of Mr Thomas would have emerged had those women been allowed to testify. even Joe Biden himself has admitted he's made a mistake

(1,883 posts)Biden has a long history of fighting conservative supreme court nominees to the point that conservatives hate him. Just because he messed up with Anita Hill AND ADMITS IT only means to me that he is human and that he tries to do the right thing. Not everybody does but it wasn't necessarily with malice. You can't see the forest for the trees.

(1,883 posts)I'm sorry to say that but I have no idea what you are trying to say. You might consider that next time you try to put someone in a no win situation.

(1,883 posts)I usually don't do that but I really couldn't follow you. I said it because I did want to understand you and I appreciate a good discussion which it had been up until that point. I will keep this in mind in the future.
That said, I think that blaming every foible on white privilege shuts out people who are really trying to learn. Allies are very important to every cause of the oppressed and I feel like people should be given the opportunity to learn from their mistakes.
