We should not be fast-tracking bad trade deals that depress wages for American workers and send more American jobs abroad. #TPA

(21,506 posts)For the life of me I don't understand it.
Fast track doesn't take away anyone's ability to read it before it is voted on. The fact that someone running for President has to either lie about the details or is ignorant of the process just makes me want to tune anything they say out.
I get the opposition but the lies or ignorance on the process is becoming tiresome. One would think if it is an issue of such importance people would be able to get the details right.

(62,374 posts)it sets up a situation where each senator will have 88 seconds of allotted floor time for debate - not hardly time for a full debate for something that will drastically change our economy.
There are so many things that stink about fast track any senator should be ashamed to vote for it. Bet their consciences are soothed with "campaign contributions" and million dollar lobbying jobs.

(21,506 posts)That was the point that it wouldn't be amended. Hard to make a deal if you can't get the details nailed down.
As far as floor time, this will not be debated on the floor those days are long over. Debate now happens behind closed doors, floor debate hasn't actually been anything more than grandstanding for quite some time.
None of which takes away from the fact that so many railing against it seem to need to lie about the process or are totally ignorant of it.
Sadly I don't trust anyone when it comes to the TPP mostly because so much of the info on it is fabricated. I will reserve my judgement till I can actually read it.

(85,974 posts)...for a simple majority ballot after fast track.
They knew that all they need to do was get past the super majority vote for cloture and TPP was in the bag. The idea that reading it now is going to change that reality is the lie. It should have been public before the cloture vote when it took 60 senators to move the bill forward to a simple majority.

Not happening. Congress didn't vote on the bill. It is intentionally misleading. The "bill" will be public for at least 90 days before it is voted on. Everyone will have a chance to read it before it is voted on.
