(9,086 posts)progressive Senators and won statewide twice with economic populist message.
My point was that the person to whom I was responding was actually mistaken to say it is certain that a liberal can not win Ohio.
An economic populist, trade protectionist, message can win Ohio.

(43,867 posts)2012, Brown was on the ballot with President Obama. Not saying Brown's message didn't resonate, but any competent candidate with a 'D' would have likely won those years.
Tarheel_Dem
(31,221 posts)President won by 23 pts. Obama's coattails have been consistently dismissed by his more liberal detractors, but EW could easily have lost that contest if a significant number of Obama voters hadn't voted a straight ticket. Same for OH in 2012, and NC in 2008.

(52,152 posts)and by quite a large margin. Frankly Elizabeth Dole was a horrid candidate in 08.
OilemFirchen
(7,143 posts)And Brown was running against Josh Mandel - perhaps the most odious candidate in modern Ohio Senatorial history. Despite that, the race was ridiculously close.
OilemFirchen
(7,143 posts)Given a choice, Ohioans will moderate every time. That's why Rob Portman is our Junior Senator.
Of course, Sanders will be out of the race before the Ohio primary anyway, so it's all chin music.

(9,086 posts)She's a radical neo-liberal.
Her support for free trade deals fits with a radical corporate agenda to ship all our jobs to China. And her support of the Iraq war was radical imperialism. During her time on the board of Walmart she supported the company in a radical program of destroying American small businesses by low bidding and forcing US manufacturers out of business. While the company was was engaging in a radical program of union-busting. The whole thing is a radical neo-liberal imperialist agenda in my book. There's nothing moderate about any of that.
OilemFirchen
(7,143 posts)I said that Ohioans moderate. That's a verb.
We also, from what I've been able to discern, do not limit our reading material to that which is plastered on the backs of cars.

(65,159 posts)His position actually isn't bad for a purple state (that leans conservative) like Ohio. I just personally don't see anything inspiring about Hillary, except for getting the first woman Presudent - and we do need a woman President. But my positions are clearly closer to Bernie's, so I would like him to pick a progressive woman VP who could run after he leaves office.
Tarheel_Dem
(31,221 posts)there for anyone who can add.
Tarheel_Dem
(31,221 posts)We shall see.

(9,086 posts)People responding to those polls probably think a liberal is a Wall Street corporate elitist who wants to ship all the jobs to China.
They probably think Obama and Hillary Clinton are liberals.
Tarheel_Dem
(31,221 posts)They favor Hillary much more. These early numbers tell us that BS has his work cut out. Both he & you should just deal with it.
Cheese Sandwich
(9,086 posts)Voters don't really even know who Bernie Sanders is. Hillary starts out with a huge name recognition advantage.
I'm not sure what you mean by "deal with it" but if you mean just shut up and follow the leader, then LOL nope.

(36,926 posts)Bernie has been all over the media for weeks. I think he has a lot more name recognition than you believe. Clearly it's not working in his favor.
Tarheel_Dem
(31,221 posts)And even with a friendly media, he's dropped a couple of points against Hillary. I'd say that's not the direction he hoped to be heading after his big reveal.

(95,337 posts)And I'm on team TUGOD which means I'm undecided and ready to support whatever democrat is elected.
I think if the GOP comes out batshit crazy that a can of rotting turds could be Scott Walker or any republican in Ohio as long as we democrats all band together and support the final nominee.
DCBob
(24,689 posts)Its a snapshot of how voters feel now. Many wont change their choice but of course things can change but it will take something major/dramatic to turn those numbers in Bernie's favor.
LynneSin
(95,337 posts)Which is why I do not buy into polls this early in the game.
People said the same thing about Obama back in 2007 - that he couldn't win because he was black and he was too progressive.
How did that turn out?
And remember I'm not here saying it has to be Bernie that is the Nominee. I'm just saying that any Democrat can win!
Tarheel_Dem
(31,221 posts)such loyalty. Everyone keeps saying "when they get to know him", or "wait till the debates", or "wait till Rand Paul reveals whatever the hell that is on his head", or "blah..blah...blah." Nothing dramatic has happened since the big announcement. Whatever steam he's gained seems to have come from Elizabeth Warren fans, he has taken nothing away from Hillary's estimable lead in the polls. I still predict that BS will top out at about 20%-23%.

(31,221 posts)Bernie has no such lineage since, like I said, he just joined the party a few minutes ago. The country doesn't even know what the hell a Democratic Socialist is, and that includes plenty of registered Democrats. Bernie Sanders is no Barack Obama, and you guys need to stop making such ludicrous comparisons.
LynneSin
(95,337 posts)It's pretty damn rude of you to go about assuming that anyone that isn't 'for you' is 'against you' when you have people like myself who avowed I WILL FUCKING WORK MY DAMN ASS OFF TO GET WHOMEVER THE DAMN DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE ELECTED TO THE WHITE HOUSE AND THAT'S THAT.
So before you go saying stuff like 'YOU GUYS' start asking yourself this - is this a person who is supporting the candidate I am so much against? Look at my profile and my signature line - do you see the name of any candidate associated with me? If I was supporting a candidate I would do it. I've been here long enough that I'm not about keep my choice hidden away like I'm afraid to tell others who I like or don't like. Who I like? Democrats. Who do I vote for? Democrats? Who is my nominee of choice? Democrats. My primary is late in the season so the time I get to vote it won't even matter any more so I hope the rest of 'You guys' choose wisely. (and fyi, I kept hoping Biden would run but I doubt he will so I'm staying undecided)
Bernie has stuck with the Democratic Party since day one that he was elected to office as a member of the House of Representatives ages ago. The Democrats have never bothered to run anyone against him in Vermont because why should they? They know that Bernie will always caucus with the Dems and will align with the party even if he is a bit further to the left. So I have no problem with him running for President IF HE IS NOMINATED as long as he is doing it as a Democrat. But if Hillary is nominated I will be just as happy to help her get elected as I would Bernie and that is the same for Chafee and O'Malley too.
So now that my rant is done and let's try to end things peacefully - please, before you go off on someone make sure they are not an undecided. TUGOD means 'Team Undecided GO Democrats'. That's the team I am on. Which means I support Hillary just as much as I support Bernie. They are all awesome to me!

(36,926 posts)If I have said anything to offend you, I am sorry. I think we all stand together against the crazy Republicans.

(95,337 posts)There are many of us who are undecided for whatever reason. Not sure why I pop into these threads and maybe this is a good reason to not go in there. But I'll go into Bernie threads and justify why all candidates can win there too so don't think I do this just in Hillary threads.
In the end someone is going to win and that's why I'm ready to go gangbusters campaigning. I'm in Delaware so my primary is late and I'm not going to be able to have much influence on my primary or even any of the primaries in neighboring states (also late primaries). So I'm going to enjoy primary season from afar and then ramp it up for the fall primary. So unless you early primary democrats become dingbats and decide to dig up Stalin from his grave and nominate him, I will trust you will pick the right person. Then I hope that we can all unite together and get this person in the White House.
Right before the 2008 DNC Convention the media SWORE that the Democrats were divided and that Hillary would take her supporters and go rogue. Heck McCain nominated Sarah Palin simply because she had ovaries and thought Hillary supporters were too stupid to know better. After Hillary's convention speech I saw that we were one party and that we would win could win this election. After the VP debate I made a non-refundable deposit on a hotel room 3 blocks from the National Mall for the inauguration.
That's what I believe for 2016. I know right now those who are decided will not believe. But for me, I know the day will come and I do believe that things will turn around and we will be united again. It will happen!
