Conservative Talk Radio Slams Trans-Pacific Partnership

Conservative talk show hosts across the country are training their fire at the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the controversial trade agreement they now refer to as “Obamatrade.”

The House of Representatives is set to vote Friday on Trade Promotion Authority legislation that would authorize the Obama administration to negotiate the TPP and other deals, then present the finished agreement for an up-or-down vote that cannot be altered. Corporate lobbyists have applied increasing pressure on undecided lawmakers of both parties.

For wavering House Republicans, the same radically conservative, anti-Obama echo chamber that energized their party during the past several elections has emerged as anti-TPP.

Nationally syndicated host Mark Levin on his show Wednesday evening slammed big business lobbying over the agreement. “Don’t you see the pressure waged by the Chamber of Crony Capitalism and all the rest?” Levin remarked, referring to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the largest corporate lobbying group in Washington. <...> [link:https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2015/06/11/conservative-talk-radio-turns-trans-pacific-partnershipThe Intercept]

the TPP is as popular with most conservatives who know what it is, as it is with liberals who understand it.

In some reasons both sides agree.

The pro business wing of the republican party loves it. It's the low information tea party sector that hates it, for the sole reason that it was proposed by Obama. In other words they are taking the right position for the wrong reasons.

But hey, I don't care, I'll take any support we can get to see that a stake is driven through the heart of this crappy agreement.

have gone with the union thugs to events, and are just as well informed about it.

Maybe my local union thugs and tea party types are the exception... but they loathe it for some very similar reasons.

But hey, whatever. Why I am no longer a partisan, among many other reasons.

that they oppose another international agreement. And they hate this one with a passion.

And conservatives have called this "Obamatrade" for a long time. Here's their website: http://obamatrade.com/

It's kind of unsurprising that their opposition to TPP is just more of their peevishness, but, when it comes to a shitty trade deal, it's" any port in a storm."

If anything should cause those idiots to grab their guns and starting threatening their Republican overlords, it should be a 'communist, Muslim, socialist, dictator' having his 'secret trade pact' approved by virtually every Republican in the House and Senate. But unlike with Obamacare, the crazies have been eerily silent. I guess that shows that the corporatists are actually driving that crazy train. Far be it from the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson to oppose fucking over ordinary Americans if it means more money for them.
