Martin O'Malley: It's simple: I support a $15 minimum wage for hard-working Americans. Full stop.

Raising the minimum wage would fuel economic growth, greater consumer demand and make a stronger economy. From Harvard IOP, April 15, 2015.

Sounds good. What I still need to understand though is, if the MW is raised from ~$7.50 to $15, jonno99 Jun 2015 #3

what do we tell the folks that were already making $15/hr - do they get a 7.50 raise?

Either way, it's sure way to cause a LOT of dissension in any organization (to give some a raise and not others)...

Most organizations do not allow discussion of wages between employees, hence, the dissension is moot.

That being said, you can expound on your premise that it should be done because it's fair, yes? I don't predicate my wage making map on the wage of a stock boy or a cashier... why specifically should I?

1. You wrote: "Most organizations do not allow discussion of wages between employee".

Even if this were true (which in my experience, it's not), policy doesn't stop normal human behavior - hence discussion WILL happen.

2. You wrote: "I don't predicate my wage making map on the wage of a stock boy or a cashier... why specifically should I?"

No one said you should (perhaps you could expand your thought here...).

"Hard-working Amercans" is one of the most irritating cliches to me in the pack, and worse, it can be a dog-whistle. Not that I expect it is in this case.

...as it's a response to detractors of higher minimum wages who denigrate workers.

I actually don't mind the characterization. It describes the vast majority of our working-class perfectly, imo. Remember, one of the arguments against the wage is that income should be commensurate with productivity.
