the voting rights issues yesterday. Loved how she called out the ReTHUG candidates by name.

(7,768 posts)and they just aired that clip. Scar, of course, was skeptical that the Re-thugs would try to thwart voter accessibility. That they would EVER do such a thing!

(15,512 posts)Save the fight for the repukes and avoid knocking other Dem candidates. If she has to stay away from the press and take hits for it that's annoying but if she lets slip one discouraging word about another Dem she'll get skinned alive. Hillary 2.0 is showing some real class and that's an encouraging development.

(62,269 posts)She couldn't vote because she only had a student ID, but she spent months registering other students. How many students did she register couldn't vote either?
Incredible.
It was a solid speech.

(50,237 posts)I heard someone make the comment that you don't have to "opt in" for freedom of speech or other rights, so why shouldn't you automatically be registered to vote. I'm certain Bernie would support this, too.

(57,936 posts)OK, I'm going to say something snide: Maybe she is learning from Bernie.
That's a bit of a snark. But then it is a good sign when the candidates learn from each other and hone their campaign policy agendas by borrowing each other's good ideas. I'm all for spreading good ideas.
Our goal is to get 1) the winning candidate and 2) the best leader for our country.
Sharing ideas among the candidates will help us achieve both goals.
Stellar
(5,644 posts)but it frightens me to watch 'Presidents' age before my very eyes, year after year. And I'm going to say the thing I guess I shouldn't say. I fear Bernie could die in office and that's what's keeping me from going whole hog on to Bernies side. I think he should choose a strong and youthful VP that's more like him. Then I can decide (morbid, I know).

(12,233 posts)Unfortunately, The TV medium and online streaming is one the only places most Americans will ever see or hear her speak. This is something I said back in 2008 when she was running. And then I went to an event, and the difference was night and day. It was simply insane how different the speech I saw her deliver in front of a crowd came across later on during the news coverage of the event. Even her voice comes across differently and definitely the appearance of really caring about what she is doing, and not being such a "canned" speech. It's simply the oddest thing I have experienced to date in regards to politicians.
And I'm not saying I'm on board with anyone. If anything, I'm much more partial to Senator Sanders since I'm an original Vermonter and I know he understands direct democracy in action from living in that state for so long. I'm only saying this to point out that her delivery of a speech on TV is so vastly different than if you were in the room with her. And live and in person, she does come across as a dedicated, likeable, smart, and in tune candidate. I only wish she and the team could figure out how to make the "in person" candidate "pop" on the TV screen.

(14,755 posts)It was in 2008. Maybe she's better now, but it seemed the same when I heard it on the radio. And, I'm not concerned about how I feel about it. I'm concerned how others will hear it. And, I can guarantee that most voters won't see her live.

That's one of the things I prefer about Bernie. He is just so focused on representing the people that he forgets about himself and comes across as warm and opinionated but with opinions that benefit the people, not opinions that he holds onto because he is rigid.
Hillary comes across as not very free or spontaneous in her spirit. Bernie is the exact opposite. The words just flow from his mouth. He really thinks on his feet.

Taking the fight directly to the pubbies, a double. She gets to come across as the nominee, she gets to gain points with Dems, and she gets to piss off the pubbies. I guess that would make it a triple.

That's the spirit that we all should have here. We have outstanding Dem candidates!
We each have our own preferred Dem candidate now.
But in the end, we will still have an outstanding Dem candidate, whether it be Hillary, Bernie, or Martin! While I have nothing against Lincoln Chaffee, who seems to be a good guy generally, I sincerely don't believe that he'll gain much traction with long-time Dems in a nation-wide race. In fact, much as I like Martin, I don't believe that even he - a life-long Dem - will end up close to Hillary or Bernie.
