With the recent announcement by President Obama giving his full support for marriage equality, LGBT rights are back at the forefront of American politics. While an increasing number of Americans are beginning to support same sex marriage and equal rights, there are those who turn a blind eye to what is going on in the country and deny any wrongdoing.
This week, Think Progress had an interview with Republican congressman and Tea Party favorite, Allen West, and he spoke up about his thoughts on LGBT equality and the effect it has in the workplace. When asked if he would support a law that would ban discrimination on hiring and firing people because of their sexual orientation, West denied that there was even an issue.
That dont happen out here in the United States of America
West continued and he believes that businesses don't care about the sexual orientation of their workers, but rather if the business is making money. West does make a good point because a business should worry about making a profit, that's the entire point of being in business. However, while West's comments about profit is true, the idea that workplace discrimination doesn't happen in the United States is just false.
