I'd put Little Boots behind Hitler, Stalin and Mao, though. For that matter, there's a good case for Stalin at #1 over the Austrian Corporal. As awful as bin Laden was, he's a two-bit piker compared to the Big Evils.

So there are countries where Saladin is much more known and important, is my guess.

What I find interesting is that Hitler is #1, while his historical contemporaries Stalin and Lenin are further down, much lower than Bush.

Shows what propaganda can do.

As for the heroes list, not too sure about #2, but otherwise it is quite the lineup.

ill declared wars come to and accept the realization that their loved ones died in vain for lies told by W and his administration - Bush will climb to the top of the list.

Unfortunately - many are still rationalizing the death of their loved ones because it is the only way that can cope.

- against the wrong country, as well as stealing an election, ignoring warnings about 911, allowed torture, and leading us to a near second great depression.

Only propaganda keeps him from being above Saddam.

Oh well.

BTW- could you imaging if Hoover had also stolen the election before allowing the economy to be trashed or if he had tortured people or any other horrid thing AND the Great Depression? And could you imaging another Hoover running for high office? Why does anyone even entertain the idea of a Jeb presidency? haha

That's the old problem with most psychology studies. We know more about the psychology of white middle class males aged 18-22 than we do any other group.

That, by itself, is just an artefact of the population that's been around over the last 50 years to be easily and readily sampled.

The problem is when the psychology of that group is then taken to be the psychology of all Americans or all humans. In some cases, it's likely to be true: optical illusions are psychology, but rooted in brain structure that's likely to be fairly universal. In other cases, it's patently wrong.

It's a known bias and error. Yet it's an error we keep on making, it seems.

I wonder if we'd fall for it if it said so-and-so was the world's most hated person, based on a sampling of 7000 energy and pharmaceutical company CEOs and CFOs.

Stalin's misdeeds affected more people than Bush's, but many more are willing to overlook Stalin's out of "necessity."

In law school in the mid-1980s I met a guy who claimed Pol Pot (who should be on this list) was only "doing what had to be done" in exterminating more than two million people. That is the weirdest and sickest thing that has ever been said to my face.
