Doesn't that strike anyone else as curious? The NRA makes the claim that they base their grading system on votes for gun legislation,it would seem to me that that is not really true at all.I think Bernie's F rating is proof positive that the NRA bases their rating on how closely a legislator resembles a conservative republican and that is not what they claim to do.

(37,748 posts)In 2010, the Brady campaign gave Obama an F while at the same time, the NRA said Obama would be the most anti-gun president in U.S. history and planned to ban use of firearms for home defense, ban possession and manufacture of handguns, and close 90 percent of gun shops and ban hunting ammunition.
So it may be a good idea for the individual voter to research the policy positions of the candidates without outside contamination by half-witted editorials and baseless allegations of fear, fire, flood!

(22,871 posts)ratings on though. They're a non profit tax exempt group who say their ratings are based on legislative votes. That was my point.

I know that he is one of the people fighting to keep those with fountain pens from robbing us, and they do far more damage than someone with a handgun will ever do.

(and I'm not anti-fountain pen, I have one and I love it, but I don't use it to throw people out of their homes, destroy lives and favor people that are doing just fine financially all by themselves without any help from tax payers!).
The people that point the most fingers are people that need to get off of the dole before they excoriate everybody else about the use of tax dollars.

(68,644 posts)I don't think the NRA likes either of them much.
Sanders: Even though Sanders has an "F" rating from the NRA for his opposition to decreasing the waiting period for gun purchases and voted in favor of the 1994 assault-weapons ban, when it comes to gun control, his record is more complicated than the National Rifle Association's blanket disapproval may suggest. He voted against 1993's Brady Bill, likely the most substantial gun control law ever signed into law, as well as bills allowing firearms to be carried in checked bags on Amtrak trains and banning lawsuits against gun dealers and manufacturers for crimes committed by their customers.
Clinton: Clinton has long been an advocate of strong gun-control laws. In her book Living History, Clinton wrote that Congress's inability to pass meaningful gun-control legislation following the Columbine school shooting inspired her to run for Senate in the first place. "We have to rein in what has become almost [an] article of faith, that anybody can own a gun anywhere, anytime," she said during a speech last year. "And I dont believe that."
While in the Senate, Clinton voted against bills shielding gun vendors and manufacturers from liability on actions taken by their customers. She recently said that opponents of gun control regulations, like the universal background checks Congress was unable to enact following the Sandy Hook shootings, "hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people." During her 2000 Senate campaign, she favored a national licensing regimen for all firearms, but told debate moderator Tim Russert in 2008 that she had since backed off from the idea.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahah.

(22,871 posts)My argument is that the NRA will not endorse a liberal no matter what their views on gun legislation. Some of you really need to take your finger off the trigger once in a while and stop the childish accusations and insults. Not everything is a conspiracy to bring Sanders down.
